Translation of ALL forms/copies/etc?

Hey all--again. I am confused--again! (go figure)...my husband is going to be sending me stuff since I'm his "agent" so he's filling out the 230 form, and will be collecting his documents to send to me too...so...it says ALL documents not in English, need translated...Does that even mean that the PHOTOCOPY of his passport page needs translated too? Seems tedious...but we'll do it.

Also, in the original CRI application, we had to send passport photos of each of us...And for this new form (I230), it says they need 2 MORE passport photos...those don't need to be the exact same pictures do they? We didn't have enough made if that's the case, and he'll need to get 2 new ones. Should he wear the same shirt? I'm worried about the minute details and it's driving me crazy.

Should he get his medical exam now to be a step ahead even though we're not at that step yet? or does he need to wait until told to do so? Also, I read that you must wait for the NVC to contact you for the next step, but someone on here said to just fill everything out and wait and when you're told to do so, send it in...BUT...I read that the form will have a barcode on it? Does that mean that downloading the forms online are the wrong way to go since they don't have a barcode? Or will the next step include a LETTER with a barcode on it? I'm so freaking confused and perplexed. Should we, or should we NOT, download these forms online (864 affidavit of support--that's me--and 230 form--that's him) and fill them out to just be "on deck, waiting" for the word to shove them in an envelope and send it off. Do we WAIT for more directions? UGH. I hate this. I want to be prepared and do things correctly.

Sorry for all the insane questions.

Find out what document translation requirements for the US Embassy in Lisbon are. Some Embassies/Consulate do not require document translations if they are in the official language of the country. The photocopy of his passport bio page does not need to be translated under ANY circumstance.

Also, in the original CRI application, we had to send passport photos of each of us...And for this new form (I230), it says they need 2 MORE passport photos...those don't need to be the exact same pictures do they? First of all, the original submission was not a CR-1 visa application, it was a petition that you filed on behalf of your spouse. Now that the semantics are out of the way, the passport pictures the NVC requires do not have to be the same picture and he does not have to wear the same shirt.

Should he get his medical exam now to be a step ahead even though we're not at that step yet? or does he need to wait until told to do so?

For most countries, an interview had to be scheduled before the medical exam can take place. Some countries allow for scheduling of the medical exam prior to an interview being scheduled but I haven't heard of Portugal being one of them (someone familiar with Portugal should chime in here).

Also, I read that you must wait for the NVC to contact you for the next step, but someone on here said to just fill everything out and wait and when you're told to do so, send it in...

Absolutely, positively, DO NOT wait for the NVC to contact you for the next step unless you want to wait a long time.

BUT...I read that the form will have a barcode on it? Does that mean that downloading the forms online are the wrong way to go since they don't have a barcode? Or will the next step include a LETTER with a barcode on it? I'm so freaking confused and perplexed.

The forms themselves (I-864 and DS-230) will not have a bar code and they do not need one. The references you are seeing to bar codes is the receipt page that is printed from the NVC online payment portal (yes, you must print that sheet and place at the top of the applicable package).

Here is my suggestion to you: download the forms and fill them out appropriately. The forms and applicable accompanying documentation can be sent to the NVC as soon as the payment portal shows "PAID" for the applicable bill.

Thanks for the information!! So, if I paid the AOS fee of 88.00 online, does that mean I go ahead and send in the form? Am I waiting for explicit directions saying "SEND IN THE FORM?" (the one that says they need 3 past tax returns, etc. etc.)...or the fact that I paid 88$ means that's the next step I'm on? I send it in? Why can't this be simple? The reason I'm so confused is because on the VJ NVC Flowchart, it says "864 Package generated" then "Petitioner receives I-864 package" then "Petitioner completes and sends the package"....SOOOOO...if I didn't RECEIVE it yet, then why should I download it here and send it in? See the confusion? :wacko:http://www.visajourney.com/examples/NVC_Process_Flowchart_v1-2.pdf

Check the payment portal where you paid the $88, if it shows "PAID" for the AOS bill, them go ahead and send the form and documents. Do not wait for explicit directions to send the form, they will not come and you will wait for nothing.

Thanks for the information!! I think I get it now. I didn't read the receipt close enough. I was in portugal when we got it, so was jet lagged and busy, and missed the part where it said "Cover sheet' at the bottom of the page. I think I"m straight now on what to do.
