Hi Everyone :)

Ive been in the US 4 weeks now. Married and my husband and I have just purchased a house so we've been pretty busy! I am now about to start my AOS but suddenly very confused :(

I know I can file my AOS and EAD at the same time but do I have to pay for both? Shall I write separate checks, all on the same check or do I just pay for AOS??

Our marriage was just at the courthouse as were having a big ceremony next year...our certificate shows both our full names and although I will be using my maiden name as my middle name and taking his last name, what do I write on the form for last name. His or mine? My SSN hasn't come through yet but when it does it will be in my maiden name as I applied for it before we got married.

Also do I just provide copies of my vaccines as I had my medical in London (K1 Visa).

IM SO CONFUSED :( and yes I have read the pinned threads and step by step guides :(

Any help would be great!!

EAD is free when filed based on I-485, so there is just one fee, which is $1070.

Use the new name.

There is a sticky about the I-693/foreign medical at the top of the forum.

AOS for my husband
8/17/10: INTERVIEW DAY (day 123) APPROVED!!

ROC:
5/23/12: Sent out package
2/06/13: APPROVED!

I think I would not mail it until you are receiving mail at the house. It will save a lot of possible confusion. They are sometimes not great changing your address. You will get a NOA1 very quickly and a biometric appointment could come within weeks too. They don't forward USCIS mail. It's only a couple of weeks. You don't want to miss your biometric appointment letter which you need in the transition.

Thanks Nich-Nick....you always come to the rescue lol and thanks for the checklist. Quick question, what do I put for current USCIS status on the i-485 and what is my non immigrant visa number? Is that the control number or the Annotation number on my visa? Or is it the red number?

Current status: K-1 visa holder.

non-immigrant visa number: the red one on your visa.

Correct. In case any reader is wondering, the status after filing is "applicant for Adjustment" or simply "Adjustment applicant." This comes from a very sharp immigration attorney whom I consulted at "our" time, si man.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

File all your AOS paperwork in the name you will use when it's all done. My wife also moved her last name to become her new middle name. After you get your green card, you can go back to Social Security and have your name changed there so it matches.

The form they gave you regarding Vaccines will help you determine what you need to do. If it says something like 'Vacinnes Complete' then yes, you can just send that form. If it says "Incomplete' then for sure you need to fill out I-693 by a civil surgeon. If it says the middle choice 'Applicant may be entitled to a blanket waiver' or something like that, then it's a gamble. It means your vaccines were complete at the time of the medical, but that you will require future ones, and if those are due by now, then I'd suggest just finding a civicl surgeon and not taking chances.

Some people have gotten away with just submitting that form, others have been RFE'd for a form I-693.

It will take at least a week until they mail you the hard copy after receiving your submission, so I'd mail it a week before you move to the new house, and absolutely use the new address, don't risk trying an address change, too much hassle.

Good luck!

Sorry, I disagree. If the form has all the shots, and was medically up to date on the day the doctor signed it, USCIS does not send you for boosters. All UK medicals are marked "incomplete" and may be eligible for blanket waiver". That's exactly what the technical instructions for both panel physicians and civil surgeons say that most forms should be marked.
