Your evidence sounds pretty good now, si man. How about drawing up some wills, medical powers of attorney, et al.?

I can definitely look into that. Where do you get those done? Lawyer's office?

Sure, a will and probate lawyer would work. I wonder if a DIY site like legal zoom.com would work? I have been considering looking into them.

I'm guessing there's no will and probate lawyers here in my tiny town, so the nearest would be about 2 hours away. An online site would definitely be useful then in this case... Thanks for the link! good.gif

What you definitely want to do is print out all bank statements of both yours and your husbands accounts showing activity as for paying the utilities. Only because I had all that stuff and then some and we are still waiting for the 10 year greencard for my husband. Now I know that they are backed up unbelievably and for some reason ours was really scrutinized but the one thing that I see that all RFE's are connected to is not including all statements of all bank accounts.

You can be put on his bank accounts and vice versa and just not give the other person a debit/credit card from the account. I am on my husband's accounts and he is on mine. We are in the same boat, I'm a saver and he is a spender!

We do transfer money between the accounts and have shown proof of that.

Okay, let me make sure I understand you:

1. You're suggesting I print out all bank statements from the last 2 years of both me and my husband, even though we weren't on each other's bank accounts at the time.

2. You're also saying we should add each other to each other's accounts now (and hopefully have at least one statement showing this).

when we got our RFE we originally sent in the first page of each month from the moment he arrived to the US, The RFE specifically requested all transactions on the accounts. So yes, I sent in an inch and half file of bank statements in and highlighting actually transactions where things were paid, where the income tax return was deposited in the acccounts and etc.

2. You're also saying we should add each other to each other's accounts now (and hopefully have at least one statement showing this).

Yes. On our statements it shows who is the primary person and then the secondary joint account holder.

Awesome, thanks! :) We'll go either tomorrow or Friday to our bank to get our names added then.

I can't wait to see the thickness and weight of our complete ROC package, thanks to the bank statements laughing.gif

Let us know how it works out for you saylin!

When my time comes ill be in more or less the same situation. The utility bills can only have one name on them even though I'm added on all the different accounts so i can make decisions and changes to them :bonk:

We won't have a joint bank account either, not that I'm opposed to having that but my husband thinks that banks are crooks and refuses to have one!

I still have some time before my time is up but I'm trying to prepare as we go.

Good luck!

Saylin,

Our utility company won't let us list both parties on our utility statements as well. Only one of us can be on the utility bills...so stupid.

Good luck to you. You have been to helpful to many people on this site so hopefully good kharma comes back to you and you sail through the ROC process smoothly

Why are utility companies so stupid, gah!

And thanks! I'm definitely hoping for a smooth process! I don't want any RFEs or an interview!

Oh no, you are not the only one with one name on utilities. There are some utilities that charge $$$ to change the responsible parties. I say, who cares, as long as the bill gets paid! Oh well, that is the stuff of another conversation.

Good luck on your ROC!

I'm guessing there's no will and probate lawyers here in my tiny town, so the nearest would be about 2 hours away. An online site would definitely be useful then in this case.
Many of the on-line sites have state-specific Will templates, because states often have required or "bedbug" language that has to go in. It wouldn't hurt to browse some lawyers' websites for tips about drawing up Wills in your state.

From a legal standpoint (apart from your immigration needs), be sure that your Wills will be valid if and when needed. There are important technicalities, such as being "self-proving" in format, signatures, etc. (I'm not a lawyer and am already in over my head.) Also, remember that if you ever move from your state to a different state, you should update your Wills -- this I did hear from an attorney.

Glad that we've been able to give you some suggestions, si man.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

Good luck on your ROC!

I thought it was very strange we couldn't add a second name, but looking at everyone here, it seems to not be that weird. And hey, if we could pay money to add my name, (depending on how much) I'd do it.

Thanks though! :)

Yeah, I was looking at the website mentioned above, and was just going through the process (but not paying at the end) and they do ask for your state right off the bat, so it does seem to indicate they know what they're doing, in reference to some states having specific things to say in the documents.

I doubt we're going to move out-of-state anytime in the future, but if we do, I'll definitely keep that in mind about updating the documents. As well as the bit about being valid. Thanks.

And yes, I'm grateful for the great suggestions :)

Wow, managed to find a firm here in town that can do wills and power of attorneys, but just a basic one would cost $500 blink.gif Guess I'm going with that Legal Zoom website. Only $39 and comes with free power of attorney.

Ufff, man... $500 is a lot. Granted that I'm around a big city where there's competition, but I've seen Wills advertised for $150, $100, and even $85. Because you're sharp, I have faith that you can navigate the LegalZoom system. Let us know of your progress, please, si man.
