How to Organize a Baby Shower

A friend is giving birth in the last week of July and she has requested my help for the baby shower. I haven't organized one before nor have I attended a baby shower in America. blush.gif I Googled it but thought that millions must have taken ideas from the same sources. Maybe some of you here know of more striking options for the party. The couple is having a baby boy.

So what are the most important elements in creating a baby shower? Who takes care of the food and drinks? unsure.gif

I guess if who is throwing the baby shower will also the one that will spending the money lol. If they are 2 or more of you throwing the baby shower for her, then you all split the bills lol :) . We only spent maybe atleast $500.00 on my baby shower before. 16 Guest .

* Invitation Cards

* How many people you want to invite

* Kind of food and drinks you want to serve ( Make it or Order it )

* Location

* Theme (from the banners, plates, napkins and cups) only if you want

* Cake

Chains do not hold a marriage together. It is threads, hundreds of tiny threads which sew people together through the years.

1. make certain the mens don't show up - that's simply bad form and shows lack of social graces.

2. hold it at a strip club that features mens.

Good Luck !

Um, I think you are confusing baby shower with bachelorette party?

Don't hold a baby shower at a strip club.

I don't know who pays for it Calypso, but a baby shower is a casual affair, takes place in the after noon for a bit, and maybe serves food for afternoon tea/snacks/whatever you want to call it. Pot luck or a lunch out where everyone pays their own way is fine too.

A lot of people have little silly games, like my friend made a cake half blue and half pink inside and the mom-to-be cuts the cake to "predict" the gender, but none of my friends want to know the sex before, so now that most people do know the gender, I don't know what the games would be. You could pass around a "name" jar and people could put their suggestions for names in it, for a laugh, or something. You could do guess the weight, or make a pool for the birth date, giving the winner half of the money raised and the couple the other half ($1 or $5 a bid or something).

Then the mom opens all the presents and you ooh and ahh and say the clothes are so little :)

So what are the most important elements in creating a baby shower? Who takes care of the food and drinks? unsure.gif

the most important part of any baby shower i've ever been to, has been the gifts. make sure that people attending the party know where to go to get exactly what your friend still needs or wants for her baby. put the link to the online registry or location in all the invitations. food, drinks and a few ridiculous baby shower games - you're all set.

of course, if your friend is all set, then gifts won't be as important as keeping everyone fed and entertained.

Thanks to you all for the ideas. It shouldn't be complicated then. I think an afternoon tea would be great. I'll narrow down the venue options depending on how many people my friend wants to invite.

Food is not necessary. Snacks are traditional--cakes and nuts and candies. There has been a trend in recent years to make it into an expensive affair including drinks and a party-atmosphere but this event is really about the baby more than anyone else and the focus should really stay there.

I, myself, am 18 days from my due date now and there is a shower arranged for me here in my job by my boss (a guy from India). I have a registry on Amazon.com--the easiest one I found--the others that I looked at are all very limiting and Toys/Babies-R-Us won't let you exchange defective items (we got wedding gifts from there and were treated horribly when we went to exchange one thing--We'll never go back EVER.).

If it makes it easier, something I did was include a post on my blog to show what we are doing, wanting, NOT wanting, already have, and would just like to have. I just update it as we get goodies or modify our needs. Click here: Baby stuff-What we've got, what we need, what we think would be cool

This has been extra handy for our friends and family who are practical like us.

Current trends do include guys. Since the mom is likely to have guy friends/coworkers/neighbors/etc, inviting guys is fine and easy. Dad is usually included these days, too, and is probably gonna enjoy the festivities. (My boss called me yesterday to make sure that my husband knew he was invited and that there would be peole there who speak his language.

Games are popular and some are stupid and some are funny and some are boring--like most theme-party games. My favorite has been "Pin The Sperm In The Uterus" where some photos of dad's face are attached to carboard sperms that have sticky tape on them to try to aim with. Another game that seems popular is to take both parents names and then everyone comes up with as many combinations of legit names from those two sets of letters as possible--who ever has the most non-repeated names wins a prize. A last one is to have everyone guess how many toilet-paper squares around mom's belly will measure. This one is lame and, unless mom was skinny to begin with, might make her mad/moody.

If you can ask around, especially with some older ladies, they can probably give you lots of great input on more practical things and some good ideas to keep the budget down.

Good luck.

I think a bath is more appropriate since a shower may be too frightening for an infant. :devil:
