Time for a gripe....

For the THIRD time I am held up at immigration getting back into the country.

My work sometimes takes me out the country, I have a two year green card, I am currently waiting on receiving my 10 year card,

I have the extention letter allowing me to travel and work from the USCIS. I have called the USCIS a week before I travel on every

occassion, they say they note it on the system when I leave when I come back I get the operators name and number....all is good.

On my return on each occassion, I hand over my documents I advise the green card is now out of date but I have a letter which I produce

extending the expiry date one year, I explain I have called USCIS and it should be on the system(I am guessing it is not) all appears fine

we have friendly chat, then as I am about to finish and walk off to catch my connecting flight, they hold up the documents and I am escorted to the "holding pen" where I sit watching evolution move faster than the occupants in uniform...after about 2 hours I am handed my documents with no explaination and escorted on my way to the exit, when asked "what is the point of having the extention letter?" I am told" I don't know"

Don't you just love when that happens, oh and I miss my connecting flight....

Until you have your permanent green card make sure you book your connecting flights with plenty time to allow for the interview at secondary inspection. The CBP officers follow a certain protocol and even with your calling the USCIS and giving them notice of your travels, they will not deviate from it. Unfortunately there is nothing you can do, effectively. It sucks but it is what it is... blush.gif

I get it you're from England a very suspicious place, or maybe it's where you travel? Leave more time so the Burro patrol can have fun.

In Arizona its hot hot hot.

Unless your name is similar to that of a person of interest you should be OK with the permanent GC. Just grin and bear for the time being...

Look into Global Entry or a Nexus card, which is cheaper and includes Global Entry). Automated kiosk entry is fast and easy. Plus, you get TSAPrecheck and skip the line... My Nexus card cost was worth it from the first trip I took. Just don't forget to keep them updated with your immigration/documents details. I got my Nexus card when I had my 2-year GC, then used it when I was ROC... you just keep them informed.
