It was a question. She didn't have to say it for me to ask. The post was an inquiry about where the origins of her animosity toward older women comes from. She displays a deep-seated fear of aging, imo, than applies her negative stereotypes to all older women. One cannot form such stereotypes without something close to home that reinforces them.

How is that differnt from the stereotypes you have of younger women which are also all negative. According to you we are all stupid, catty, etc.

I've been a young woman. Sarah has never been an older one. I asked once before, and I ask again, why it's ok to demean age in a way that would not be tolerated when applied to race or religion. Most respondents didn't think it was the same thing, and defended ageism, but denounced racism and religious discrimination.

I'm curious as to why negativity toward young women is so easily noticed, JP, but negativity toward older women doesn't raise a peep from you.

I'm a social scientist. I study, interpret and explain cultural norms and definitions for a living.

Is it possible that Sarah might just not like you specifically? I'm only guessing, because I haven't heard or seen her have arguments like this with anyone but you.

I don't brag about being rude, if you are going to quote me then do it correctly. You keep shoving words down peoples throats as if they said them. I said I was direct and I don't sugarcoat things, that doesn't equal rude. Just because you were young once that doesnt make you an expert.

Who said negativity towards older women doesnt bother me? However when I see you making the same degrading comments towards younger women then I see no reason to defend you. If the negativity bothers you so much then you shouldnt inflict it on others. Don't dish out what you cant take in return.

I don't think Sarah has degraded older women in general (except you and I think this has gone both ways). She has, however, been frank about what she thinks of older women/younger male relationships. She doesn't like them and she thinks they are often fraudelent. I don't think this is unique to Sarah although others may not be so bold as to say so. My own husband is extremely skeptical of them although he does not entirely rule out the possibility it could be real love. This comes from hearing men in cybers joke about marrying an older woman because she has one foot in the grave and he can get her money sooner - and still have time to remarry and have children with a young wife.

My husband says something similar, although he's even more skeptical. He actually choked when I told him that women expect these to be loving, normal relationships. I don't know one way or the other myself, but hearing the perspective of a man is quite interesting.

But seriously, is it unreasonable to venture that people might just dislike each other here? It's more unreasonable, IMO, to take what someone says to one person and extrapolate it across ALL people, in this case, old women.
