I am a US citizen and my Fiancé is French.

we live 1 hour from Paris and want to (as everyone else) return to the US ASAP. We already filed all of the paper work for our wedding in France and it all was approved, had our interviews with the mayor as well.

We will be married June 7, 2013.

We would like to file immediately to get the paper work done as soon as possible so I am trying to do all that I can and will even call the US Embassy this week to ensure I understand things correctly and clearly.

We just got to France last week, she was in US with a tourist Visa so we returned to get married and then return (while I learn French too)

My current questions:

1 What paper work can I print and fill out now (wait to send it after marriage)???

2.I have another US Sponsor (non-relative). As on paper I do not make much money....lots and lots of volunteer work so on paper I look poor. But can the sponsor (the friend) be the main sponsor??

3.Can anyone direct me to a few links that would be good for me to read and study and basically memorize the process.

4.I have 2 Jobs and family and friends waiting for us the second we can return....as far as I can see the earliest is 6 months.......it that the absolute earliest?

Thanks everyone

If this is in the wrong topic (I posted in introductions too to get responses) please just delete my post.

Welcome to VJ!

1. You can start filling out al the paperwork now (see our Guide for what is needed: http://www.visajourney.com/content/i130guide1 ) but do not date or sign anything until you are ready to send it after your wedding when you have the marriage cert in hand.

2. No- even if you make no money, you as the petitioning spouse are the primary sponsor, your friend is the joint sponsor.

3. See Guide above

4. 6 months is not impossible but very uncommon at this time. You are likely looking at 9+ months.

Bye: Penguin

Me: Irish/ Swiss citizen, and now naturalised US citizen. Husband: USC; twin babies born Feb 08 in Ireland and a daughter in Feb 2010 in Arkansas who are all joint Irish/ USC. Did DCF (IR1) in 6 weeks via the Dublin, Ireland embassy and now living in Arkansas.

Thank you!,,

Oh I forgot to mention........when we hired our lawyer to get married we told her what we are doing (she is legal in USA and France). She said that she(lawyer) can get my fiancé her green card in 8 months.....but she wanted a considerable amount of money to hire her. Wuld you find it advisable to think about that? Or is that more too just fill out paper work we can do ourselves?

No lawyer is going to speed up the process. All fiance visas (K1s) are taking 8+ months right now. However, you can not use a fiance visa if you are getting married in France.

3/2/18  E-filed N-400 under 5 year rule

3/26/18 Biometrics

7/2019-12/2019 (Yes, 16- 21 months) Estimated time to interview MSP office.

That is what I thought.....thank you. We are planning to prepare the papers and when we marry (June 7) turn the packet in and hope for the best...... That is Regarding the CR-1 Visa ......

...we are not and have not touched anything with the Fiancé visa

Thanks!

I agree with the above- a lawyer can be useful when you have red flags (criminal convictions, previous overstays), or have difficulty filling in the detailed form, but overall, lawyers tend to slow things down rather than speed it up, because it';s an extra step for all your paperwork.

Your lawyer didn;t lie- 8 months used to be common- but recently we have seen significant slow down.
