I live in Canada and my Fiance lives in Colorado. We have filed a K1 petition. Once approval has been granted and we have been married, we will continue with applying for the AOS. My question is, can I go right back to Canada to get my belongings after filing for AOS? Or do I need to wait until AOS has been approved before I can leave Colorado? I have a few things that I would like to bring with me as well as my 2 wonderful cats.

Thanks in advance!

You MUST stay in the US until you get your AP/EAD card. If you leave while AOS is pending they consider it abandoned and your greencard will be denied.

What they said.

EAD/AP combo card generally takes around 90 days after filing for AOS. You can travel back to Canada without consequences (while your AOS is still pending) only once it has been received.

AOS itself can take from a few months (if you're lucky) to a year (or in the worst case, even more).

Why not bring your cats with you when you cross the border on your K1?

All of the above...

Why don't you bring your belongings with you? Or have them shipped out?

I moved all of my belongings from Vancouver BC to Maui HAWAII.

Got rid of the BIG stuff and flew with 21 pieces checked luggage! (I believe that's a record for Alaska Airlines) Under $1,000

Anything is possible...

Thanks everyone! I was so unsure about this part of the process. I may look into bringing only a few things and taking the rest as baggage, including my cats.

Now I am wondering if they are going to ask me why I am bringing so much luggage....

And if I should buy a return ticket, or a one way ticket. I've heard that they will harass you if you only have a one way ticket. Does anyone know?

Your K-1 is for moving to the US. That is when you should move. Why would they question you about luggage when you have a visa for moving to the US?

The ticket type does not matter.

AOS for my husband
8/17/10: INTERVIEW DAY (day 123) APPROVED!!

ROC:
5/23/12: Sent out package
2/06/13: APPROVED!

When you present with your K-1 visa, they know that you are moving to the US, so it is no big deal. The only thing that you have to do is check with your airline carrier, because they do charge to oversized, more than one bag. I went to see my husband and took empty luggage, so that when I came back, I had a lot of his stuff. When he did POE, he only had 2 large suitcases.

HELP!!

I came to US by K1 and I'll have AOS interview on this Thursday but I still cannot find a civil surgeon that will not rip me off (money is hard to earn), I almost give up to the $140 for the transcription of the I-693 only but they still can't do it in one day and it just available next week which is too late for me. I wanna ask if there is any of you who got the AOS approved without the I-693?. I'm very worry of this thing. :crying:

You need to post your topic separate from someone else's.

when you apply for AOS, include the AP and EAD stuff (fees are waived when filed with the AOS) .. Figure 90 days after filing to get an EAD card, give or take.

No concept of 'going right back', alas.

If it's a few things plus the kitties, would it fit into The Coloradon's car, one trip ? If so, consider him coming up after yer visa approval and making the drive south with you and the critters.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !
Ya know, you can find the answer to your question with the advanced search tool, when using a PC? Ditch the handphone, come back later on a PC, and try again.

OH! Cats. Make sure you look into how to bring your Cats to the USA. They may need quarantine but they may not. I know they most likely need an updated vet record, current shots etc. You can't just willy nilly bring them over the border. LOL! ;)

I have taken your idea into consideration. That might be the best route. Get him to come here and drive back with me. my cats and my things. Cheaper, probably. :)

I called some department in Colorado. I can'r quite remember which one. They told me that all I needed was a Certificate from a vet stating that they are healthy. So hopefully they gave me the right information.
