Update 2: Based on feedback, I have made two changes to this version.

First, I fixed a small typo in the explanation for hypo number 1 (it incorrectly stated the January, 2013 pace was 537 completions, though it was really 574). The underlying calculation had been correct, however, so no worries.

Second, I added two inputs that allow anyone to easily alter the hypothetical number of completions for February and March, 2013 for all hypothetical scenarios. It has become painfully obvious that it is very unlikely the 574 rate of January actually continued during both of those months. Since I do not have any other good guess as to what the real rate was, however, I will just leave it to you all to play with the numbers. Please note, however, that I do think using the 574 baselines is probably the most reasonable way to conservatively estimate the figures for use in dealing with congressional offices, even if it is likely a tad optimistic.

EDIT: I should note the updated version is available through the original link in the OP.

By the way everyone. I just checked the USCIS website: https://egov.uscis.gov/cris/processingTimesDisplay.do

It seems the website was updated and again the processing date for K1 is STILL July 18!

This is what it says: "Field Office Processing Dates for California Service Center as of: February 28, 2013." I believe last week it still read "as of January"!

Update 3:

1. VSC filers can now calculate their delay using the same method! See the "vsc projected delays" sheet in the spreadsheet linked to in the OP.

2. If you entered the same NOA1 date for the "csc projected delays" sheet and the "vsc projected delays" sheet, you can see how much quicker or slower your petition will be processed compared to the other service center by checking the "projected delays comparison" sheet. I think seeing the data presented like this provides good fodder for putting our complaints in context.

The updated spreadsheet is available at the original link in the OP as of the time of this post.

Mods: now that I have made three significant improvements to the calculator, would it be possible for me to edit the OP and it's title accordingly? If so, how would it be best to go about doing so? Thanks!

Thanks! As a VSC filer I was starting to feel left out. This really is a great tool.

Is this taking into account the update that shows as of Feb 28th it is still showing July 18, 2012?

Yes, the USCIS's arbitrary processing date actually has no effect on the way this calculator generates answers. The only thing that will changes the answers are newly published data for apps completed, received, or pending in months going forward.

I know I'm not super Excel-savvy, but I can't seem to get this calculator to work. When I put in our NOA1 date, I just get errors in each field.

Can anyone help?

PS> Awesome tool! Really appreciate you sharing!

I'm not sure what's going wrong. It should generate answers with your NOA1 date without an issue. Are you entering the date according to the mm/dd/yyyy format? Also, make sure you are hitting enter or you click on another box after you enter the date so that it accepts the input.

Well I hope the process is moving, even if slowly.

My submission date there is July 27th so I've been pretty much beside myself every time I've seen that same date for the past 4 months or however long it's been.

Yep - have the date in the correct format. 08/27/2012 (August 27th 2012)

All of the cells with formulas show errors when I open it and then when I plug in the date, the #N/A errors are still there.

That's very weird. It's correct that the cells should show #N/A errors when there is no date entered. But I can't understand why they aren't updating when you input the date, as that behavior is out of my experience and those of other users. You could try re-downloading the sheet or perhaps opening it with the "calc" program in the free openoffice software suite, but I cannot guarantee either of those solutions will work.

I think it might be an error with the actual date. I just plugged in a few other arbitrary dates and they worked fine.

There's something about August 27th that it doesn't like!

haha, the plot gets thicker. I appreciate that you keep trying to figure out what is going on. Unfortunately, I still cannot reproduce this particular error. August 27 is working for me on both the csc and vsc sheets. Have you tried re-downloading the sheet? Maybe something got corrupted by accident. Also, what version of excel are you using? Perhaps one of the formula commands I used isn't backwards compatible.

Haha how funny. I'm running Excel for Mac (Version 14.3.2). It's not a big deal - September 1 2012 works and that's just a few days later than our real NOA1 date.

Thanks I&B for sharing this calculator. Wow. I couldn't make it work until I converted it to xls from xlsx. My worst case gives 68 days. from today until completion.

Btw what is everyone using as NOA1 date- the Receipt date or the Notice Date? I would guess the notice date is the one that is valid. Both dates are indicated in the I-797C form, but it is the receipt date that is referenced in the USCIS Case Status.

2013-08-13 - Sent AOS package (I-485/I-765/I-131 for K1; I-485/I-131 for K2)

2013-08-24 - Received hard copy NOA1 for K1's I-485, I-765, and I-131. No NOA1 received for K2's I-485 and I-131.

2013-08-30 - Received biometrics appointment letters for 2013-09-13. Sent Request for Rescheduling form to re-reschedule biometrics.

2013-09-04 - Biometrics processing stamp (early walk-in / Infopass)

2013-09-10 - Received a second set of biometrics appointment letters so I sent back copies of our biometrics processing stamps to three offices: Alexandria BPU, NBC, and Vermont Service Center.

2013-09-23 - E-notification: change of Case Status (I-485 K1&K2 ready for interview scheduling)

2013-09-26 - Received a third biometrics appointment letter (to K1 only). Ignored.

2013-10-10 - E-notification: Interview appointment notice for 11/13/13

2013-10-14 - Received hard copy interview letter in the mail

2013-10-23 - E-notification: change of Case Status (I-485 K1&K2 interview cancelled) ; E-notification: I-765 approved; E-notification: 1-131 approved (K2)

2013-11-13 - I-485 Interview for K1&K2. Approved

2015-03-30 - Divorced
