Hi everyone,

I am still in the middle of the I-129f process, but I will be living in the Riverside/ San Bernardino, CA area after I received my visa. Whenever I visited my fiance, I never noticed any foreigners in the area except some Mexican immigrants. I see that the area is rather rural and not as diverse as I would like it to be. I am just wondering are there any Europeans or other foreigners living in the area at all??? If so, I would love to hear from you and exchange experiences!

Hi there!

I'm from England and live about 1hr 20mins from Riverside!

Where are you from? Everything organized for your potential move?

Redflame x

Hi,

thanks for your message! I´m from Germany. Where do you live and how do you like it there? Have you met other Europeans? Are there any shops around where one can buy their Euro products? PM me if you like! :)

There used to be a great pub over by the 215 and the 10. Not sure if it still exists. Usually the key for finding people is finding a regional eating place.

yes, that would be an idea, but I´ve never seen any German or Italian (I´m mixed) restaurants or stores in the area. I guess I have to go to L.A. for that

There should be some signs of "culture" (i.e. European stuff) in Redlands since it's a nice small university town. Otherwise I'd suggest heading west into the Claremont/Pomona area -- I went to college at the Claremont Colleges and there are great shops in the Claremont Village as well as lots of German movies and things on the Pomona College campus. This was in the 90s, so I'm sure it's only gotten more diverse, not less.

I'm a lot further south now -- Escondido, San Diego County, but I teach German at the local community colleges and if you need German resources in San Diego, just let me know! (I'm American but lived in Germany for 3 years and was getting a Ph.D. in German Lit, and now marrying a Finn, so I also keep an eye out for European stuff around!)

A Ph.D. in German literature, how interesting is that!? You must be quite familiar with my favorites Heine and Goethe, then? smile.png Where in Germany did you used to live?

I will have to change careers when I immigrate since I am a lawyer back in Germany and that is one of the few degrees that won´t be of any use in the US.

I don´t mind, though, since language has always been my true passion. I would like to get into teaching or translating. I am aware that I probably couldn´t start on a college level, but I saw that Redlands Conservatory was looking for German teachers as well. Do you know any foreigner who teaches their native language and how they got started? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

We go to San Diego a lot for fun (and run through Escondido actually, coming from Riverside) and would like to move out there eventually since it offers more diversity and hopefully better job opportunities for me.

So if you see anything European or German around, be it a store, a restaurant, or even a job that could be a fit, please don´t hesitate to contact me! I will be very grateful for any info.

Thanks, Lynkali.
