How long from people's experiences has your SSN normally taken to arrive? I visited our local office on the 20th March and still nothing! I am now married so when it does arrive I will need to change it but I can't do anything without it :( I can't even go on base (husband is in the Air Force) as even though I'm a spouse now I need a SSN.

Any help would be appreciated.

It usually takes about a week after you applied to receive the SSN card. If you need your SSN number right now, you can go back to the SSN office, bring identification and the letter they gave you when you applied and they will print out your number for you.

I have the letter etc and would go down but our local office is only open mon-fri 9am to 3pm and it closes at 12noon on Wednesdays. We've just got back from our mini honeymoon and were in the process of buying a house so we've had no time but expected it to have arrived by now. He goes back to work Monday and I don't have my own vehicle yet so will probably ask a friend to take me to the office. Is there a number I can call today? A main SSN number? Can I file AOS and EAD without a SSN?

Mine was taking forever to arrive and I was also worried, so I went back to the SSOffice. They told me the SSN had been assigned the day after my first visit, but that, in order to deliver these kind of documents, the post office verifies, prior delivery, that the recipient's name is registered in the given address.

I had applied for my SSN before getting married, and that second visit was after the marriage, so they told me that since the card had been already sent (even thought not yet received) I could simply reapply, this time under my married name. I did so, and drove to the Post Office right afterwards. There I explained my situation, and showed them my passport and marriage certificate (to prove name change). They immediately entered my data on their system, and I got BOTH cards the next day (the 1st one under maiden name, and the new one under my married name).

Btw, I also wrote my name on the mailbox; as silly as it sounded for me at first, it's important!

:hehe: lol

Maybe you should pay a visit to the Post Office, and make sure they have your name registered in that address?

Yeah I know I should be patient but I don't want to start any paperwork half assed. I would like my SSN so I can complete every thing and that includes being allowed on my husbands military base.

You can get a military dependent's ID. Go to DEERS onbase with your husband. Take your marriage certificate and 2 forms of picture ID's. Once you have a dependent's ID, you should not have problems entering the base and yes shopping. Be aware, some bases require 2 forms of picture ID's, so you may have to take your passport with you, which is an acceptable form of picture ID. If you drive, you must have current registration, driver's license, and insurance before passes are given to visitors.

Yeah you should get a military dependents ID which they give without SSN. I don't have SSN but I have a military ID which allows me to the base. My husband is in the army.
