A month ago I tried to cross the border from canada to US to visit my fiancé and establish proof of our relationship I was denied entry. They were suspicious about me returning to Canada because I had no return ticket and I was unemployed. They said I needed to establish myself in Canada before I can enter the US. I now have a job and I was paying rent before just didn't bring any proof.

I would like to visit the US in maybe two months and use bank statements, rent receipts, paycheck stubs, a letter from my employer, a return ticket of course, and the fact that I have family in Canada as prove that I'm returning. In your opinion would the US border let me enter?

Hi! I cross the border CAN to US frequently (and have even been denied, once) - the important thing from here-on out would be to be honest when you cross the border. They are going to ask you (and likely pull you into secondary EVERY TIME you cross for approx 6 months) if you have ever been denied entry to the US and been finger printed (they did this to me when I was denied). I can't stress how important it is to always say YES. They will give you the chance to explain... but don't overlook this - they already know you have been denied, lying about it would be bad, bad news for you.

Secondly - yes, the things you mentioned would be good. Bring as much as you can to prove that you WILL return.

This is what I bring every single time I cross (for travel purposes to see my fiance):

- A copy of my mortgage statement (dated same day/day prior from the Bank)

- A letter from my Manager stating my vacation days given and my anticipated return to work day

- My itinerary (flights, hotels, any other receipts that would show a start/end to the vacation)

- A receipt/letter from my Vet stating that my dog is in boarding until XX day

- A copy of my NOA1 for my K-1 application

Answer honestly and be specific, but keep your answers succinct. I established very early with the border patrol that I knew of the laws re: immigration and when it came time, we would be proceeding legally. Because its been 2 years now, I have a relatively easy time - every time - but it never hurts to be over prepared.

Best of luck to you!

I have been denied entry twice so expect to be pulled into secondary next time you cross. If you are currnetly unemployed, you'll get a job?

Be extra perpared and extra polite. If you have what you say you'll have, letter from an employer, lease, bank statements, etc, then you will have a much better chance. Do you have a copy of your K-1 packet to show?

Good luck
