Hi, I was hoping to get our I-129F petition in the mail Monday but just discovered a possible hitch - my gal didn't put a date on her letter of intent. Is this really a big deal? I didn't even notice it until I looked at the example given on this site. I don't see anything that states that this particular item has to be dated, but thought I would ask here just in case. Thanks!

She signed it, right? Then put the signature in there yourself. If she's alright with it, then fine. But the date is not today but when she actually signed the letter of intent.

Yes, she signed it - her signature, not mine. Everything else in the letter is correct, she just forgot to date it. They're probably not that picky, I just wanted to leave nothing to chance!

You can add that. Hand write it if you want. It is more important that she has said she will marry you within 90 days of entering the USA.

Thanks! I just added the date at the top of the statement she wrote. She has all the essentials along with her printed name and signature at the bottom.

All these documents are making me a nervous wreck! I'm finding myself worrying about every little detail! Can I ask another question please?

I have certified translations (Russian to English) of her birth certificate, passport, her marriage certificate, divorce decree and document that shows her last name was officially changed after her divorce - these consist of a copy of the original document attached with a seal to the translation. Do I send these in or do I just scan them and send the scanned copies? Also I noticed that the certification and signature by the translator is in Russian instead of English, is that a problem?

You should be able to send copies. They do not require originals of anything except the forms that have to be signed AFAIK. You don't even really need certified translations, anyone that knows both languages can do the translation.

It should say on the translation in English that the person doing the translation is fluent in both languages and that the translation is a literal translation with no additions/changes made by the translator.

YES anyone can translate. the TRANSLATOR does not have to be "certified" but the TRANSLATION needs to be certified. The translator does this by adding their own certification that the translation is true and accurate, that they are competent in both languages and add their name, address and phone number. Such as the one Alla uses...

I, __________________certify I am competent in the English and Rusian language and that this is a true and accurate translation of the _________________document. Translated on __________

Name of Translator

____________________________ (signature of translator)

Address of Translator

Phone number of translator

This, then is an official and acceptable certified translation.

Alla has, in fact, re-translated and re-certified several translations for people who had this exact situation and received RFEs.

The TRANSLATOR must certify the translation and the certification must also be in English. You will get an RFE if it is not.
