One in three Americans want Christianity as official state religion

One in three Americans want Christianity to be the official religion of the United States, according to a recently released poll.

The new poll, released on April 5 by HuffPost Live, shows that a third of Americans would like to establish Christianity as their official state religion, and about the same percentage of people would support a constitutional amendment to make Christianity the official religion of the United States.

The poll reports that it is mainly Republicans supporting the establishment of Christianity as the official religion of the United States. The poll also reports that 25 percent of those Americans under 30 support the idea of Christianity being the official religion, while 40 percent of Americans over 65 support Christianity as being named the official religion of the United States.

A Constitutional amendment is what it would take, to repeal or "clarify" the first and fourteenth amendments.

Uh, no official religion, please and thank you !

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

The ammendments were put in place to PROTECT people from religious rule. Quality of life under rule by the religious is way down there with quality of life under rule by the liberals

It's your conservative Republican buddies that are in favor of this according to the article posted. There shouldn't be an official religion in the US. Freedom of religion.

I wonder how many Americans want to make Druidism the official religion - hug a tree or go to prison.

That's the beauty of free worship. Steven can hug trees, others can be atheists, etc. No official religion.

You're showing what you know again

You're from Texas, I'll try to go slower next time so you can keep up.

Gosh. Christianity the official religion? I would smell a new war between the Catholics and Evangelicals, if there was any money to be had from the fed coffers.

We shouldn't have an official religion or language IMO.

Why on earth shouldn't there be an official language? Official languages make sense. It is already unofficially English but I'd be willing to be if they ever picked an official language it'd actually be TWO, English and Spanish.

I think English should be the official primary language though as it is the predominant and unofficial language of the US anyway.

Why does it need to be legislated? What does that do to improve the status quo?

It doesn't necessarily improve anything now, but as there is NO official language, technically English should not be taught in schools. Why are kids being taught English if English is not the language of the country? Can I tell the public schools that I want my child taught pig-latin because that's what we speak at home? Technically I should be able to. No national language means I shouldn't HAVE to learn it.

Right now in the US there are translations on signs in stores, street signs, products etc. If English was the national language people would be forced to learn it, to speak it. There would be English tests and requirements before getting visas and honestly, I think it would make a lot of people's transitions a lot easier if there were (especially if they were assisted in having English classes).

Eventually, just like everything else, someone will make a big deal out of it not being the official language and by that stage it won't just be English because there are enough people in the country that speak X and Y language that there will be X number of national languages that we would need kids to be taught at school.

It just makes sense and works well for other countries with a set national language.
