Interview for Monday scheduled today?! Help!

So my fiance emailed the U.S. embassy in Dublin today to check the status of his case and hopefully try to find out when his interview might be scheduled because we had been going on 5 weeks this week since he submitted his notice of readiness and hadn't heard anything.

He got out of work this evening and received an email and a phone call on his home phone saying that his interview is scheduled for this coming Monday (?!). The problem is that he still doesn't have the paperwork I have to send him because it took me ages to get my co-sponsor's birth certificate and I only just got it in the mail a couple of days ago. He tried to call the embassy back and see if he could reschedule but no one answered the phone.

This seems like such a mess, I have no idea what to do. The embassy is closed for the weekend (I'm assuming?) and if he does try to go on Monday, he'd have to leave his house for Dublin at 9am so he'd probably never know if they got back to him about rescheduling. I thought they were supposed to notify you of the interview date around a month in advance? Has this happened before that people find out so last-minute? He's scared to reschedule, but it feels like he has to because I still have to send him all of my paperwork. I'm trying to find a way to express ship it to him this afternoon but the only estimate I could get is by the end of the day on Monday, which doesn't help much because the interview is scheduled for 1:00. Now my fiance is vaguely thinking about having me fly out to him tomorrow to bring him the paperwork and then leave the next day so that I can be back for work.

Can this really happen? My SO said that the email he got was kind of hard to read, which made it seem like it was written in a rush and I had vague thoughts that it might be a scam but he said it is from the embassy. I just can't get past the fact that it's okay for them to schedule something so huge for Monday on a late Friday afternoon just before they close so we can't even inquire any further. Is rescheduling an interview an unusual thing to do? Should we not try? It just doesn't seem like it'd be possible to get everything ready for Monday when it's Friday evening for him now and everything is closed down for the weekend. I'm part venting and part begging for any kind of advice or guidance anyone could give. Help!

So my SO emailed and called the Dublin embassy again on Friday and left them a message. Then, yesterday morning he called them at 9:30am to find out about rescheduling. He gave the woman his case number and asked if he could reschedule his interview. She said that he was just supposed to go in for fingerprinting that day. My SO thought that was a bit of a surprise and said, "Okay, so I don't have to bring any of my paperwork then?" and the woman replied, confused, "But you already had your interview....?" My SO said no, then she laughed and said, "Oh! I'm looking at the wrong case number!" So then she pulled up my SO's case and said, "Oh, yeah, your interview was on March 21st."

:ranting: .... :ranting: *head explodes*

I'm guessing either the post office lost the letter and never delivered it, or (probably more likely) the embassy just never mailed him anything or notified him of the date, so he missed it. So now his interview is rescheduled for this coming Monday, but I can't get past the fact that he could very well have gotten his visa already if he had been able to go to the interview on the 21st. I mean, do they not care at all to even call a no-show and ask why they didn't show up?

So I guess beware of that if you're using the Dublin embassy. Even when you do everything the way you're supposed to, someone else can screw it all up for you.
