Illegals now flooding U.S. border

Lawmaker: Some asking authorities, 'Where do we go to get our amnesty?'

Illegal border crossings have doubled, and possibly even tripled, since the latest congressional push began toward comprehensive immigration reform.

In reporting first published by Townhall.coms Katie Pavlich, border patrol agents in the Tucson/Nogales sector claim illegals are coming here in much higher numbers in just the past few months.

Weve seen the number of illegal aliens double, maybe even triple since amnesty talk started happening, an unnamed border agent said to Townhall. The data from Customs and Border Protection cited in the report shows 504 illegals were detected crossing in that sector between Feb. 5 and March 1. Only 189 were caught on camera, and just 174 of the 504 were apprehended. Of those spotted on camera, 32 were carrying huge packs believed to contain drugs and several were heavily armed.

Rep. Louie Gohmert, R-Texas, is a member of the House Judiciary Committee and a former Texas judge. He told WND none of this surprises him.

This is no surprise at all. Its consistent with what we anticipated would happen, and its very consistent with the reports weve been hearing anecdotally along the border, Gohmert said. It is a huge problem and what we keep trying to get across to the administration and Senate Democratic leaders is until you secure the border even talking about amnesty becomes a magnet.

Gohmert said this is a repeat of what happened along our southern border following the amnesty granted to illegals in 1986.

Thats exactly what happened in 1986. It is exactly what is happening now, just from talking about amnesty. One of the border patrolmen said that when theyve apprehended some, theyve said, Where do we go to get our amnesty? he said. Theyve heard about it. Its drawing them in here, and weve even got to quit talking about it until this administration can do better than getting one-third of those who are crossing illegally. Thats not a secure border.

The congressman also agreed with Rep. Candice Miller, R-Mich., who told us earlier in the week that the Department of Homeland Security has no current method of measuring the effectiveness of border security efforts. But Gohmert said that shouldnt be that hard.

It is possible to know whos crossing. In Israel, they can detect people trying to dig under. They detect people trying to come across. This president can send drones to Yemen, for heavens sake, to blow up American citizens. You can certainly have drones flying for next to nothing along our border and then send people to apprehend those who come across. Its not rocket science, he said.

For the cost of what theyve given a couple of Solyndras, we could have had the whole southern border secure and be monitoring the northern border for incursions as well. It can be done. Theyre just not choosing to do it, Gohmert said.

Gohmert lauds Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., for insisting upon regular order in the Senate, which would require open committee hearings and votes as well as a robust amendment process. He also said the greatest victims of amnesty would be legal immigrants, who have been waiting up to a decade or more for a chance at citizenship.

He believes the immigration legislation currently being discussed will only exacerbate the problem, but Gohmert contends that securing the border would make the rest of immigration reform very easy.

I would say that what theyre talking about is not a reform, he warned. It is a magnet to more illegality unless the border is secured first. If we can just get the border secured so of 504 people trying to get across illegally, we get 502 and only allow those coming in legally once thats done you will be amazed how quickly we get a deal done. But theyre wanting to put the cart in front of the horse, and that never works.

In that case, Rep Louie Gohmert is way off the mark. If he has an issue with anyone talking about 'amnesty' he should be directing his feigned outrage at his own party members. It was the unaware members of GOP who have introduced the misnomer to the American public, not the democrats.

However, a piece of news originated by a politician from Texas being reported by the WND can't really be taken as anything other than a parody of reality.

You can certainly have drones flying for next to nothing along our border and then send people to apprehend those who come across. It’s not rocket science,” he said.

“For the cost of what they’ve given a couple of Solyndras, we could have had the whole southern border secure and be monitoring the northern border for incursions as well. It can be done. They’re just not choosing to do it,” Gohmert said.

The Border Patrol has been using drones for years. Either Gohmert doesn't know what goes on in his own state, or else he's lying and knows it. But then again even Rick Perry didn't seem to know what was going on, either:

In the Republican primary, Rick Perry suggested that Predator drones should be used to patrol the Southern border, apparently unaware that the nation's border patrol agency was already doing just that in his own state.

"They have all the equipment, they’re obviously unarmed, they’ve got the downward-looking radar, they’ve got the ability to do night work and through clouds. Why not be flying those missions and using [that] real-time information to help our law-enforcement?” Perry said in August of last year. But the aircraft had already been in use to monitor the Texas, Mexico border for several years. Drones are also used to patrol border areas in Arizona, Florida, and North Dakota.

Gohmert's a goober. He's said a lot of stupid things... here's one of them:

On August 12, 2010, Gohmert appeared on Anderson Cooper 360° to defend recent comments he made on the floor of the House regarding "terror babies". Initially, Gohmert had claimed (in a speech made on the House floor in June 2010) that an ex-FBI agent had told him about "terror baby" plots. On Fox Business News, Gohmert had later claimed that an airline passenger with a relative in Hamas had a grandchild who was to be intentionally born in the United States.[20] In the interview, Gohmert asserted that pregnant women from the Middle East are traveling to the US on tourist visas, planning to deliver the child there. According to the Fourteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution, this automatically grants citizenship to the child. Gohmert asserted that the child would then be returned to the mother's home country and be submitted to a life of terrorist training. When repeatedly asked by the host for any evidence of this, Gohmert did not provide substantiation for either the ex-FBI agent story or the airline passenger story, but gave a description of a Washington Post article,[21] which described so-called "birth tourism" packages, mainly directed at Chinese tourists. These packages (one was described in the article for $14,750) were described by Gohmert as a "gaping hole in the security of our country". When asked several times by Cooper for the connection and any corroborating evidence, Gohmert responded "If you don't think this is evidence, you have to believe that the terrorists are more stupid than these enterprising people".[22] The Daily Show later parodied this incident.[23]

The Enquirer has eyewitnesses report that Elvis was seen loitering about around the 7,000 block on Sunset, ergo it must also be true.

A vehicle of yellow journalism such as the WND reports unnamed sources quoted by someone else. That ought to be your clue.
