Hello all!

I got in the US a few weeks ago and got married on my K-1 visa.

I went to the SSA today. I had 2 middle names that they made me drop because I couldn't fit my maiden name in there (and I wanted to keep my maiden name as a middle name and take my husband's last name)

The problem is that I filled all my immigration papers with my 2 middle names and my maiden name as middle names. Now I am afraid it is going to be such a mess. Does anyone knows what will happen?

Will I get my 3 middle names on my GC?

If yes, do I have to go back to the SSA to make them change my name so it is the same as on the GC?

What I am supposed to do when I go to the DMV to get my driving licence (give my 3 middle names or just my maidden name)?

Thanks in advance

Good luck in your visa journey!

My husband's driver license just has an initial for his middle name. When you apply for AOS, put the name on the application that you plane to use. After you receive your green card, you will have to go back and get another SS card, so you can change it then.

Thank you so much. I called the USCIS, they were (of course) unable to answer my question. What they told me was that if I needed help, I could ask an attorney (hum hum... very useful)

Anyway, thank you!

Good luck in your visa journey!

You will have to go back to the SSA when you'll get your GC anyway (to let them know you are a permanent resident), so they will have to somehow match the name on your GC with your SS card.

If you applied for EAD, you can even go back to the SSA when you have your EAD.

What matters on your SS card is mostly the number. Once you have it, you can update your name on your card with the EAD/GC. :)
