I'm P.O'd I can tell you!

We went to the civil surgeon yesterday to have his vaccination records transferred to the form. The receptionist tried to rip us off & told us it was $45 to fill it out & I said, no last week I called & you said $20!!! She said the price changed - I said, in a week??? Finally got her to agree to $20.

The doc in London checked the NOT READILY AVAILABLE box for his chicken pox jab. The woman at the surgeon says well you need it, go get it then come back. So he had to traipse all over to find some sketchy health clinic to do it. And now we have to go back to the surgeon.

He had 2 other needed jabs in London, any idea why they didn't do this one or at least tell him he needed it for AOS?

They don't have the vaccination in England, so I guess that's why London applicants don't get it. I don't know why they didn't tell you you'd need it for AOS but I guess as is often the way, they're only concerned with 'their bit'.

Glad you managed to get it done though :) And good on your for arguing with the cheeky woman about the price for the form!!

I haven't had a chicken pox jab. When I was at the medical they asked if I have had CP and because I have they waived it. I don't need to have it for AOS because I am immune.

They wrote it down on that form they give you.

They should have advised your husband at the time of his medical (husband - that sounds funny! :P ) that if he hasn't had CP he will need the varicella vaccine for AOS.

The UK doesn't have the varicella vaccine for some reason.

He was mad that stupid 160 quid exam doc couldn't tell him that. Goes to show you how inconsistent Knightsbridge can be!

All that form says is NOT READILY AVAILABLE - it doesn't really tell you that it will be needed. Misleading!

Did he see the vaccination nurse too? You said he was given two jabs...the doc doesn't tend to do that.

The doc does the basic exam and then, afterwards, you go into the vaccination nurse and SHE should have gone through everything with him.

Sounds like she didn't do her job properly....

Hmm, when I did my medical I had a sheet with a table on the back showing what vaccinations I needed and varicella was ticked, but it was also noted that this was not available in the UK. So I'm guessing they thought that he would have checked that out already and known that he had to get it done in the US (although like Mags, I was asked had I had chicken pox as a child, and I said yes, so they said I didn't need the vaccination). It was also 180 quid when I did the medical. So there's a little something to be thankful for.

Never had the pox as a kid ...so they checked me out at the medical (via the blood tests) and said I was immune, so I would not need the varicella jab. I did react to the TB test though...although I expected that one ...having been immunised as a kid ... but around these backwoods no one would believe me ...so I was treated as having active TB... till a specialist arrived and slapped some sense into the locals :innocent:

anthony never had the varicella vaccine, either. his doctor just wrote "not age appropriate" or something of the sort on his vaccination record, and it was fine for AOS. he didn't have any questions with it along the way.

interesting, the topic of a positive reaction to a TB test. anthony is starting nursing school in january, and just went last week for his physical. whaddya know? he tested positive for TB. he had a chest x-ray to prove there was no active disease, and the doc signed off because he, too, was immunized as a child. :)

he did end up getting the varicella vaccination at his physical last week, though, since it's required for the nursing program.

£195 for my medical becuase I had to have another MMR jab becuase I couldn't prove I'd had it how rude.

That sucks having to have the chicken pox jab I'm so glad i've already had chicken pox but trust me it is worth getting the jab if you have to I had shingles last year and was off work for a month while it cleared up it was so painful all round my side and on my back I could barely lie down without it hurting.
