Wow tons of awesome information! That's why I love VJ! :)

I will certainly keep the expedite procedures and the timeline in mind. It should not be an issue getting the letter from my job.

Any idea how much faster the expedite will be? and if it will cost anything?

I had not considered putting in both EAD applications. Could that backfire on me in any way? Has anyone here tried it?

Also, does anyone know what the level of confidentiality is with all of these documents? So for example if I go for the expedite and my company gives me a letter explaining that I will be working on XYZ government project in a ABC capacity, can that somehow get back to another government branch and bite my company in the butt?

My company does everything by the books, but I have seen certain contractors and diplomats react very negatively to someone less than a citizen working on their projects. So we just follow don't ask don't tell. They can't ask and we don't tell.

Thanks again!

Expedites cost nothing. Assuming you were approved for expedite they'd approve the EAD immediately (for example) or send you an interview letter if for the GC.

USCIS is the government. The government knows other government info but you know that a lot of them are very autonomous. Each department kinda keeping to themselves unless asked. Do I think that USCIS would contact, say, the FBI and tell them that they're processing someone who works on their projects and he's not American? No I don't think so. Could they stumble on this information? Well if they wanted to look into the employees they would probably actually have to ask your company, and I don't think they would.

I don't believe this would come back to bite you, but then you never really know what they'll do.

You might want to check on immigrate2us.net also. I know that they have many cases there of people who entered without inspection, had TPS, left and re-entered the country on Advance Parole, and successfully adjusted status. (Although ironically in that case, leaving the country on Advanced Parole was required for them to adjust status, since they did not come in with a visa, but entering on AP gave them a valid entry.) Your situation is different -- you came in on a visa, etc. But they may have some more experience with these issues.

That was something I was reading as well. It was very confusing because some stuff said it would be fine, others would say ban...

I just received my appointment notice today!

The appointment date is set for 8/22/13

Can't wait!

If approved how soon would I be able to travel?

I have seen some say you can travel same day, others say you have to wait for your GC.

Whats the consensus?

Also, how long until I can get U.S. Passport?

Thanks guys!

You MUST wait for your GC. You can look into citizenship in 3 years. If you have been married less than two years you will also need to file Removal of Conditions in 2 years.

AOS for my husband
8/17/10: INTERVIEW DAY (day 123) APPROVED!!

ROC:
5/23/12: Sent out package
2/06/13: APPROVED!

Thanks for the quick reply. My wife and I have been married for 3 years now. So does that mean that I get a longer expiration date on my GC?

How long usually once approved would it take for my GC to arrive? I have heard a week or two, is this accurate?

Thanks again

If approved and you need to travel very urgently I believe you can go to an InfoPass appointment and get an I-551 stamp.

Any marriages over two years old would result in you getting a straight 10 year Green Card which should arrive in the mail in about 3weeks from a successful interview date.

At any point after the 3 year mark on your Permanent Residency would you be able to become an American citizen and as a result, be eligible for an American Passport.

Congratulations on progress made and Goodluck on the future. good.gif

That's all great news guys! Thank you all.

So for the time being I would be traveling with a foreign passport and my GC and once naturalized I would get my US passport. Is that right?

What is infopass? How would I go about getting an appointment with them, and what is the process to get this done?

Thanks a ton :)

If you need to travel right away, you can ask for the stamp at your interview, if they approve you. You MUST have some proof of LPR status, ether the GC or a stamp in your passport to travel and not trigger a ban.

Any marriages over two years old would result in you getting a straight 10 year Green Card which should arrive in the mail in about 3weeks from a successful interview date.

When adjusting from a K-1 you're always granted a conditional two year green card regardless of the length of the marriage.

For this reason, when you have been married for at least two years and are adjusting from a K-1 then you should also include an I-130 so that you can be granted a ten year unconditional green card immediately, and can avoid needing to file for RoC.
