I had my interview this morning in Houston yesterday

We got there 30mins before our appointment

We were checked in and we were given a clip board with a form to fill. I was overwhelmed with the amount of people waiting at the reception area. I would suggest nothing less than 25 couples all waiting to be interview.

We were called in about 45mins upon arrival and I was nervous but my wife wasn’t. The IO walked us into her office which is the third office immediately we turned left. My wife sat and I asked if I don’t like been told off.

She then said I can sit but she will soon ask us to stand up and she will swear us in. She asked for our identification and my wife gave her the state ID and I have my passport to her. She took her name and kept on checking, she then we are welcome and that her name is blah blah blah, infact I wasn’t interested in what her name is, all I wanted to hear Is the approval.

She then swore us in and we went through our forms. She started with my wife and asked my name, dob, address etc. then she asked my middle name which my wife doesn’t know how to pronounce and she her self tried to pronounce it but she could not and I was there laughing at them both.

She then turn to me and ask the same question, I answered every question pertaining to the i485 which includes my wifes parents names. Shes was flicking throught the form and also typing. She then said shes going to ask us how we met, so she said she will start with my wife, my wife said we should to talk on the phone while I was in Africa and that her cousin was married to my uncle and when I came in dec2012 we became very close and on valentines day I propose to her. My wife was very emotional and cried before when I came to visit her in the hospital in dec upon my arrival, she was facing a life and death illness and I kept on coming to visit her while her family kinda neglected her.

The IO then asked my the same question and I also explained how we met and when I propose to her, she asked if we have met each others family, my wife said she talks to my regularly on the phone in Africa and I said yes that am close to my step daughters although they are both living on their own and they also have kids, infact I told her that one of my wife grandchild lives with us. My i94 was inside my passport and I notice her taking the i94, she kept on flicking through my file and asked about my sponsor, my wife told her how my sponsor is to the family and I also told her that my sponsor and I use to work together in Africa.

She asked if I have any questions, I said no but I later on regret why I didn’t ask question. She asked if I have other documentation to show her but she also said she doesn’t really need anything because I have provided enough documentation, I insisted on showing her our 4months bank statement and she’s like whao, I also have her 4 month cable bill and life insurance, she said its enough because I have bunch of other documentation. I then showed her our album and she’s like whao, she really like the pictures, she said we have so much pictures, (100) and said I did a good job proving all the documentation and proof of bonafide.

I was expecting her to say yes that we are approve, infact I was 99.9 percent sure she will approve us but she then said, I WILL GET A REPLY TODAY OR TOMORROW, infact I nearly collapse and fainted, I was gobsmacked thinking what else do u need from us and why can’t u just say YES. I left disappointed and here I am back on Visajourney. Am so sorry guys, I thought I will be able to pull this off and put a big smile on your face. Up till now I haven’t receive any reply.

Shes very professional and she looks kinda Spanish to me. I noticed plenty family pictures of hers in her office, she was pleasant and made us comfortable, she didn’t talk about the conditional green card nor renewal and that’s my story.

ddkorestin, what ever you do ... don't freak out like I did. You proved your bona fide marriage. It sounds like you were given very easy questions and wasn't grilled. I'm sure you will see your approval later today.

I was once told that the decision to either approve or deny is already made before the interview. The interview is a formality to confirm the decision.

This waiting part is nerve-wrecking and the toughest part of the whole process. Keep yourself busy and keep your mind occupied or you will fry your brain with worry.

I'm sure you are disappointed as we were that we didn't get the instant approval either. But don't worry, you will be fine!

Believe me, if anyone can relate to how you are feeling right now, it's us. The wait is excruciating!!!

I even have an android app that checks the USCIS case statuses. You can get it from the App Store on your phone. It's simply called "USCIS Case Status Notifier". Just download it and enter your case numbers. You can even give the cases names. For example: "AOS", "I-130", etc. This is the app I used to check our case the entire trip home. Plus you aren't glued to a desktop/laptop. If you have an iPad, I have an app for that too. Just let me know.

I'll stay right here with you if you need to chat, vent, or just make small talk. Anything to help pass the time.

Hang in there!

My wife does not yet have an interview date either. We haven't been able to track it through the USCIS website yet - it says the case not be found. I'm not that worried because we weren't able to track the EAD/AP until they were approved either. The waiting bothers me too and I wait for the mail every day but it's just a matter of time.

In the mean time, we have gotten her EAD/AP, SSN, state ID and will go to the DMV for her driver's permit in a few days. It certainly helps to keep busy with other things. Congratulations to everyone who has received their Green Card!

Is there anybody out there without interview date besides me? I am really hoping it will come by the end of next week, but waiting is killing me. From what I heard in my office it will take 2 months from 'testing and interview' until interview being scheduled. So that means even if it came today, I still have 4-5 weeks until the actual interview.

Hi A and P - If you fill in your timeline it would make it easier to give you advice. Also, filling in your signature helps as well.

It's a unique feeling that only someone who has endured it could understand it. Look at it this way, you wrote it yourself. The IO stated you did a good job with your documentation & proving your marriage genuine. Now it's just a matter of that little blue ball moving on your case status to confirm what you truly know in your heart & what we know as well.

Just think, soon you won't be checking your status every 2 seconds. You'll be waiting for the mail! LOL
