We have our interview in a couple days, and I just realized we only have our original marriage certificate (no extra certified copies). Will it be ok to take the original with us? Will they want to keep it?

Itll be sweet. If you submitted copies with your application they may not even ask to see it (they didn't for us). Maybe take a normal uncertified copy to go with it, that way if they ask for it they can verify the original one, and take the copy.

Your original certificate is certified, right?

I would go ahead and take it rather than getting an RFE or worse a denial on the spot because you wanted to keep your only copy. You can always send away for more copies after your interview.

Good luck in advance! Your interview is Thursday, right?

Congratulations!

We have the same interview date! I am also in Miami and this morning I received the exact same email. :D

I also have the same question as you regarding changing my last name. I filed all the forms using my maiden name because it is in all my ID's but I want to take my husband's last name and I don't know if I should wait to get the SSN after the interview.

Has anybody gone through this? What's the best way to do it?

Hello!!
We received this email early in the morning:
On July 9, 2013, we mailed you an appointment notice for an interview for August 14, 2013. Please follow the instructions on the notice. If you move while this case is pending, please use our Change of Address online tool to update your case with your new address or call our customer service center at 1-800-375-5283.

Cant believe we already have an interview day! we are excited.... now time to prepare for the interview!dancin5hr.gif

We just got the interview notice today which I'm really surprise it came so fast, after we went to an infopass in June the officer told us we might get the interview date maybe for October/November and well it actually came earlier, we were expecting to take a long time because we're in Miami.
The officer also advise us to get an infopass once a month if we don't received any updates on our case just to make sure everything is fine and to see how long it might take for the interview date. So I'm sure your interview notice might be coming any time soon and yeah my notice came today but we still have more than month away from it but I think is good because it helps you to get everything in order.

I do have a question for April filers: I received my work permit already, I was thinking to apply for my SSN this coming friday and then start looking for a job.
What would you recommend will be better, get my SSN now and look for a job or wait for the interview to do all that? i asked this because I'm going to try to get my last name change on my green card because I didn't used my husband last name to file the applications but I do want to use his lastname, so I don't know if is better to wait for the interview and get SSN and green card with same name??

Thanks for your help:goofy:

Had our interview today :) . It went very well, we didn't spend more than 10 minutes in the office and 5 of that was him copying some paperwork we gave him(pictures, debit cards, where we work) . He asked us where we first met, and where we are living right now. That's it! We were so surprised that it was so short. He said that we should receive the Permanent Resident card in the mail within 2 to 4 weeks. Make sure you have everything organized he told us thank you for having all the paperwork organized for him to copy.

if anyone has questions please ask.

I'm right there with you, and still a lot further behind. I still don't even have my I-130 approval. I hear it takes about 5 months so I'm looking at September at the earliest. Attaching my 485 to that should take another two months so I'm looking at end of the year before I'm all done with this darn process. So don't sweat - I'll more than likely be right here for company :)

My USCIS Journey...

I had an I-485 filing already submitted through an employment-based application. Post-marriage, I submitted an I-130, which after being approved was interfiled with the existing I-485.

Interfiling/AOS Timeline:

01/03/14 - Day 274 - Interfiling request received by USCIS

04/03/14 - Day 364 - Interfiling service request sent

04/30/14 - Day 391 - Second interfiling service request sent

05/19/14 - Day 410 - Email sent asking for case status update

06/04/14 - Day 426 - Response received that I-485 was transferred to NBC

06/05/14 - Day 427 - I-485 updated to "sent to local office for processing"

07/02/14 - Day 454 - Status changed to testing & interview. Interview date August 4!!

08/04/14 - Day 487 - Mini-Stokes interview. IO intended on approving AOS but the computer did not show I-130 approval. The wait goes on...

08/18/14 - Day 501 - Spoke with Tier 2 IO - said that my I-485 is approved but no card prodn ordered. Asked to call back in 2 weeks if no update.

08/29/14 - Day 512 - Spoke with Tier 2 IO - said that my I-485 was not approved yet, but my file was with an IO for a decision

09/03/14 - Day 517 - Wrote a request to my Congressman asking for assistance

09/09/14 - Day 523 - Status updated to Card/Document Production

09/15/14 - Day 529 - Status update - Card mailed to address on record/permanent resident status registered

09/15/14 - Day 529 - Status update - Card picked up by USPS.

09/16/14 - Day 530 - GREEN CARD RECEIVED IN THE MAIL!!
