guys my actuall interview letter came in today! my interview will be Monday august 5th at 10:05 AM! I am so ready! if they do approve me on the spot I will ask for a Stamp because im trying to visit some family in Canada. considering the fact I haven't left the country in 13 years!!!!!! my last entrance to the US was 8/28/2000!!!

Congrats!! I can relate to waiting all day for the mail to arrive. I won't miss that! Ha ha

We got Dave's SS and DL before. People write that they want to wait until after they get their GC to get their SS card so they won't have the statement that its for work only. The thing is that statement will be there until they become citizens. Also, a reason to get it before is because it takes a while to receive it. That's two less things you have to wait on. Plus it keeps you busy while waiting for your interview which I see is next Friday smile.png

Totally agree. That is what I did. But it only kept me busy for a week.

Lil big day today! Dave's getting his learner's permit.

Yes! Now, I get to be chauffeured!

I failed my driving exam yesterday :D

I wasn't even worried about it and she failed me... The other officer wanted to give me DL without driving exam (I got my license 10 years ago) but she yelled from the other room that she wants to drive with me.... I stopped and counted till 3 in every stop sign and looked around but when I was backing i didn't look over my shoulder :( and 1 tyre went little bit over the road on 3 point turn..

And when we got back in she told me I can see that you are a good driver but usually drivers fail the first time... And I can't go back before next Friday... If I had failed my writing exam they would let me go back on Monday...

But I got Lerner Permit so I can drive with my husband

True. But the good thing is that I do know that in my office (Greer sc) they do stamp upon request. My grandma became a resident last year and they asked her if she was traveling anytime soon and she sed yes. So they stamped her passport :)

Thanks, Blue! We're getting nervous as all heck! Stress has been building up so much that I'm afraid I'll burst into tears during the 1st question the IO asks.

I failed my driving exam yesterday :D

Oh, no! LOL. Dave was wondering how long he had to wait to re-test if he failed the practical. I didn't know. Now we do. You at least have an idea as to what the proctor is looking for. You will definitely pass the next time. :)

Dave decided to wait a month before going for his driving test. This is so he can build his confidence and get used to our crazy ####### drivers here. The DMV office is the same location where I got my license 28 years ago. I plan on having him practice drive in that area since I know that's where they'll be testing him. He's been really good about looking over his shoulder and using his turn signals. Only thing that bothers me is that he slows down/stops too soon, especially when exiting the freeway.. I'm afraid one of these days we'll get rear-ended. I'll definitely have him practice his 3 point turns and parallel parking.

It's only been one day and already I am enjoying being chauffeured! It's been forever since I was the passenger.

I don't know if Dave is or not. We haven't talked about it since we've been more focused on getting through the interview as fast and as successfully as others.

What exactly is it for?

It's called I-551 stamp and is the same as a green card. You can travel right away, even before you get the card in the mail. They often write a date for 6-12 months, it is valid for that long. But by that time your green card is usually mailed anyway. I guess it's good for those people who either didn't apply for AP or are afraid to use it for travel before GC is accepted.

Hey all,

My Green card arrived in the mail this morning. Very relieved as according to the USPS tracking it had sat in a sorting center for 3 days... I was getting nervous!

In regard to the stamping. I did get stamped (Charlotte office) after mentioning that I may need to travel for work .This was also evident in my passport by all the UK entry stamps from my work travel over the last couple of months. My L1 work visa did not expire until the start of June so I was fine to travel without AP up until then. I've read on other forums that its a mixed bag, some IO's will do it, others wont, however it is nice insurance should there be an issue with your GC being mis-printed or lost in the mail. It doesn't hurt to ask that's for sure.

Good luck everyone, I hope it all goes smoothly!
