funny thing is crime has already been on the decline in Chicago. Must have been in anticipation of the court ruling.

A whimper from poodle puppy. <bark, bark> "The NRA is ineffective" <bark, bark>

It certainly was not because of a gun law.

It's probably the weather. Or something.

The crime rate in Chicago has been on the decline for awhile, though 2012 was high.

"For a while" but 2012 was high? Ancient history, 2012.

In 2012 they needed the National Guard to quell the violence in Chicago. Yeah, it has been on the decline since then

Now it is going to go down. Don'tcha just hope they appeal the 7th circuit ruling to the SCOTUS? I do.

The homicide rate in Chicago HAS been going down. 2012 was high, so was 2008, but the years between and before saw generally steady numbers. MUCH less than they were seeing in the 90s, and quite a bit less than what they were seeing at the beginning of the 2000's.

2001: 667[10]

2002: 656[10]

2003: 601[10]

2004: 453[10]

2005: 451[10]

2006: 471[10]

2007: 448[10]

2008: 513[10]

2009: 459[10]

2010: 436[10]

2011: 435[10]

2012: 506[11]

I do admire that you're up in the very early hours of the morning to post emoticons about gun laws, though.

Living on the government's dime must be really working out for you, huh? How's the plan going?

Not that I expect an answer. You've ignored it a dozen times already. ;)

:bonk:

What you inadvertantly (or maybe deliberately, usually it's deliberate with libs) left out is that the population of Chicago has been falling for 50 years (guess why? can you guess? maybe venture a guess?) so your numbers, since they are not population-corrected, do not actually say anything. The population is currently lower than it was in 1930.

Crime rates otherwise and overall are better reflected by incarceration rates and since 1980 crime rates have fallen nationwide.

Chicago crime rate reduction is lower compared to nationwide crime rate reduction.

Thanks for the raw numbers though. You probably fooled SOMEONE so good work.

NOW we will see the crime decreased in Chicago.

Unlikely. It is about to warm up as spring progresses and summer approaches. The warmer it gets, the more crimes we will see in the northern hemisphere.

Buy ammo.

Yes, totally deliberate. You caught me in my elaborate scheme. I'm so embarrassed...

So population of Chicago has been declining, but crime has been increasing (see the 70s and the 90s as particularly brutal decades) ... but then when it goes DOWN, it's still because of population loss?

Homicide is one thing.

Shootings are counted differently.

Gunshot wounds are counted differently as well.

Soooooooooooooo... what metrics were you used to, when you lived in Canada, that could transfer over to an understanding of USA Police Metrics?

You're right, "USA police metrics" is far too complicated for my poor Canadian brain to understand. Go troll somewhere else, aye?

That darn metric system forced me to go out and buy a whole new set of tools that I already had in standard sizes.

You're wasting your time Ev, Himher has his mind made up and nothing will change it.

Not trying to change it, trying to understand the argument. If population loss meant a decrease in crime, I'm genuinely curious as to why the crime rate rose in a few decades while people were leaving the city.

Cause the people leaving the city took their guns with them. There were fewer guns, and that means more crime.

I feel so much better that only 400+ will be gunned down in cold blood this year as opposed to slightly over 500.

I may start packing for that little slice of liberal heaven right now. With all the gun laws they have I should be safe...

Drugs are the root of a lot of the problem in Chi town. What we need are laws to ban drugs... That would stop all this

Nowhere did I say the numbers were acceptable.
