I no more defend private proms in Ga. than I do BET or the Congressional Black Caucus.

How many whites have been invited to join that little club? Hmmmmm - 0 -

These are private parties and I have always supported the rights of "free association."

I would not support the school system doing it... unless it was agreed upon by the students but these are private parties where kids want to be with their friends, play their kind of music and all that.

Why do you hate American principles so much?

Don't step on the african-american principle of 'we can separate from you but we want to whine if you seperate from us'.

i don't get it.

That's the second time and this is the second thread where you have sat at a computer typing and giggling about white schoolboys in the bathroom. You got some sick fantasy happening with that or what? It appears that you, also, are what you are huh

Now we just need the other one of the non prejudiced trio to chime in. You are what you are. And not even smart enough to think of your own line. Of course you're from Texas, so that explains it. Still bitter over the Civil Rights Movement? That the South lost the war? That blacks can vote? Poor you.

Look who's e-whizzing all over the white people. I'm not shocked at all.

You might want to sit down for this but I actually am unaffected by the ills, whines, problems, and needs of the black community. They are limited to the donut shaped election district to the north and quite well welcome to it, all of it, to do as they please while we comfortably relax down here enjoying our stand your ground right to keep it that way.

Thanks for asking though

Not all white people. Just ignorant racists.

Why don't we get back to topic.

What these kids are doing is great. They're learning early to stand by the courage of their convictions, and address a matter their schoolmates want -- an integrated prom.

I apologize for my contribution to the derailment of a good topic. It is great what they are doing. It's just too bad that they have to do it.

Ignorant = never stopping to wonder why the white parents aren't suing for the right to send their kids to black schools or to the black prom

Come back and see me when that happens. You have to get what you want and you have, for 30 years. Good work.

Nobody has to be forced to join you down in the sewers you've built from it though.

I am still confused by the OP article. Has there been a history of an integrated prom and dances, or is this something the students are trying to organize as something new? The wording/editing of the article makes it difficult to follow. The private dances/prom things suck, since the school doesn't seem to be willing to organize anything, leaving it up to the students (or parents) themselves. Maybe that is the way things roll in Georgia, but it seems a little weird from my perspective.

It's organized by the parents and students and the school / school district is uninvolved

I agree and I applaud them I hope we can have our next class Reunion with our black classmates

To the others points. If a bunch of students want to get together and have a prom, in which they only invite whomever they wish. I support that right, even if I would disagree with them, as long as it is not sanctioned or supported by any School body.

People of like interests and from like social groups get together all the time and have closed parties.

So do all of you agree the colleges should not have Black Student Unions ?

Once again I support and applaud the bi-racial prom. All I am saying is you can't be separate when you like but equal when you demand it.

Let me address this one at a time:

Himher/Danno: Here's a lesson for you. Black folks don't want to be separate but equal. This prom wasn't the black kids idea, they want to be around their white classmates. At one point in history, Malcolm X preached about a black nation separate from white folks when he first started out. When he went to on his Mecca, and saw white muslims, his vision changed. He then embraced racial harmony and wanted both races to live in peace side by side. And that has been the focus ever since. There is no black only anything. BET was created because black musicians couldn't get video time anywhere else, MTV said we are a rock and roll orientated program. And it's also ran by Viacom, which is white owned. That's the difference, if it's majority black, whites and other races can still join. If anything was created exclusively for black people, it's because we were kept out of whatever it was.

RHR: Black student unions are open to everyone, don't believe me? http://articles.washingtonpost.com/2012-04-01/local/35454060_1_white-student-black-student-union-black-children. Now if you can, please show me a white student union with a black or hispanic president.
