Georgia high school students organize first integrated prom

While still having two separate dances, the school decided to elect only one pair for king and queen for the first time this school year, and one of the integrated prom organizing students, Wallace, won.

"I felt like there had to be a change because for me to be a black person and the king to be a white person, I felt like, you know why can't we come together," Wallace asked.

But nothing changed. Wallace wasn't invited to the white homecoming. In fact, the king and queen took separate pictures for the school yearbook.

Some might agree with them. Someone's going around ripping down the signs they're putting up to raise money. This could be staff, though.

Most proms are held at a hotel or some type of hall, at least when I was in school. I know homecoming might be in the school gym, but if the parents and students are paying for it, they get to choose who comes and who can't.

So, it is just like any other private party. In that case, it would be up to the white students not to attend the white only prom, unless they don't see anything wrong with having a white only prom.

You're right, you don't know who the opposition is in this case. Could be students, faculty, or a mixture of the two. It would be cool if the mixed prom rocked more than the other one, just hope they can get it off the ground.

Now, I'm from Canada, where the whole prom thing doesn't really exist, but I've been lead to believe that prom's a big deal for high schoolers.

It's the pinnacle(sp) for most high schoolers, since it's the last event before graduation. Magical night for most who go. Limos, big dresses and tuxedos, the after party, and going to six flags the next day.

Yes they can go the integrated one, but if they are still doing it this way, they might not be able to go due to parents intervening, or maybe some actually think that way.

Sorry, I meant with the way things are now, the white students can only attend the white prom.

They are trying to organize the integrated prom, but it's not something that's been done yet.
