So, I have an interview with Target tomorrow. Yay! However, previous threads (like this one: http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/398982-need-help-to-understand-what-is-wrong-about-not-hiring-me/ and this one: http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/399782-employer-couldnt-verify-my-ssn-has-this-happened-to-you/) seem to indicate that Target doesn't verify newer SSNs properly. Maybe I'm getting ahead of myself, but should I bring this up in the interview if they want to go ahead and hire me, or should I just wait and see? Certainly, it's not like mentioning it ahead of time is going to prevent the check from coming back wrong, and then it'll have to get sorted it out anyways. Or perhaps Target got with the program already?

I would just wait and see what happens and deal with it as it comes.

Well, it looks like I didn't pass the background check. Gotta call them tomorrow (they're closed right now) to dispute it. :bonk: I hope this is resolved easily. I already have my GC, EAD, SSN and DMV ID scanned and ready for e-mailing. I'm supposed to attend orientation on Friday.

You can go to the USCIS website and do an e-verify for yourself to see if you come up as work authorized and print that out and take it in if you do. If you do not come up as work authorized you may have to go to the SSA and get that straightened out. I did it for myself to see how it works and then I did it for my wife.

Good luck,

Dave

Thanks for the tip. When I try self-verify though it says there isn't sufficient information to generate a quiz to confirm my identity. :(

So, this has been a bit of an adventure.

First background check didn't clear because Target typed in my birthday wrong, so I had to resolve that. While speaking with LexisNexis I asked about my SSN; they said they cannot do a manual verification yet, since that wasn't determined as the issue.

So they did another check with my proper birthdate, and that one didn't clear because my SSN is too new. So I had to email them a scan of my SSN and ID just now.

This is all rather annoying, but on the upside LexisNexis seems to be very fast- the initial background check only took a couple days, and the second one less than 24 hours. They said manual verification has to be done within 30 days but is usually resolved in 3-5 days. I'm hoping it goes faster since my orientation is supposed to be on Friday.

Anyways, to future Target applicants I suggest you keep a scanned copy of your SSN and driver's license or state ID on hand.

Curious about that too, shes had it over a year and it is still " too new?" doesn't seem right! specially if you have been using it for other IDs and things.

Nope, LexisNexis said that issues come up with SSNs issued in 2011 and beyond. :( Anyways, LexisNexis manually verified my SSN awhile ago but Target is taking forever to put me in the "system." They told me to come in for orientation on Friday and when I arrived they told me to leave because I couldn't do the paperwork yet. So then I came back for orientation today and they still didn't have me in "the system" so I went through orientation anyways but couldn't do any of the paperwork or get a starting date. I'm starting to get really annoyed, it's been two weeks and I keep getting jerked around. I'm not impressed at all, is this typical for American employers? The information LexisNexis had was correct, and I verified my SSN and stuff with Target, so...

Seems typical from my experience, they don't seem to want to deal with green card holders =( even if you are Canadian =/

But it SHOULDN'T be typical!!!
