I'm a US citizen who has lived in the Philippines my entire life until this year when I decided to bring my fiancee to the US. Me and my wife just completed the k1 process, got married on February and are now ready to do the AOS step. We currently live with my mom, who acted as a co-sponsor for my wife's k1 visa since my income then wasn't enough to satisfy the requirements. Doing a bit of research, looks like I'll need to complete the i-864 form myself while my mom does the i-864a form since we all live under the same household. Does it matter if later on, after submitting the AOS requirements with my mom as a joint sponsor, I find a job here that allows us to satisfy the poverty limits on our own and find an apartment or something, thereby moving out of my mom's place?

I was in a similar situation- living at the time with my father who was the joint sponsor, but moved out a few months after filing. I chose to have my dad and I both file two separate I-864- under mine, I checked "a. I am the petitioner" and on my dad's I checked "d. I am the only joint sponsor."

That being said, I'm not sure if there is an advantage to filing the I-864A- but the I-864 sufficed in my case.

Also, when you do move, make sure you file the AR-11 for your spouse and an I-865 for yourself. If your mom moves, she also needs to fill out a I-865. After you move, you have 10 days to file these.

You don't have to do the I-864/I-865a way just because you live with the joint sponsor. In your case 2 I-864s would be better like post #2 explained.

Ok so if we do it that way, on my i-864 do I just indicate a total of 2 for household size? What about on my mom's i-864? 2 as well?

Yours- you + immigrant

Mom's - Mom + immigrant (if there is no Dad or any dependents on her income tax )
