The challenge for us at Lihuillier is they don't allow more than 10,000php after 5pm. From 8am-5pm larger amounts is ok, but it depends how much cash they have on hand which they always don't seem to have. Its more of an inconvenience than a problem.

Have you folks run into that limit, too?

It's not free. WU will charge 1 php lower than current exchange rate. So $1000 will cost you $23.76 to send.

I came across a website that could provide another alternative in sending money to the Philippines. I found the website of Qwarta Padala and suggested it to my uncle in Australia who sends money for my grand mother's hospitalization bills and according to him it was very easy and convenient since he can do it online unlike when he was using Western Union for he needed to get of his house and go to the nearest Western Union branch to send the money. The service fee was fixed at P200.00 only when he sent P 40,000.00 to us and they provide a very good exchange rate. I received the money thru my bank account but we can also claim the money to any M. Lhuilier branch if the recipient does not have any existing bank account. I used to use Remithome for a three day delivery straight to her account. Lately I've been using remitly to send instantly. They even have an android app and I promise I don't work for them. The current rate is 44.32. Remitly gives you 43.64. So sending $1,000 means they will profit 680 php, at 44.32, that's $15.35 you are paying. Not too bad, but an ATM card with refundable fees is still cheaper.
