As many of you know immigration may ask for chats to prove relationship. Unfortunately MSN (hotmail) is retiring April 8th and we will not be able to sign in. Skype bought them out. I spent 2 hours to copy and paste my last 2 years of chats to my Microsoft word to have them if needed. Just letting you all know, you may want to prepapre for this. I believe (and may be wrong) but skpye does not seem to save chats. So, maybe we will be forced to use yahoo. Hope this helps some who don't know about this.

According to MSN, you will still be able to sign into your Hotmail account after April 8th , and you can even keep your same Hotmail address (_____@hotmail.com) It's just that it will become an Outlook account. All your stuff will still be there (as long as you log in at least once every 8 months or so.)

This is part of what i got

So, what's happening after the retirement?

Messenger users on Windows and Mac desktops** will not be able to sign in and will only be able to upgrade to Skype. If you attempt to sign in, a notification will appear and, if you continue, you will be taken through our installer flow to install Skype and automatically uninstall Messenger at the same time

That is from my email from MSN (the new Outlook)

clearly says we will not be able to sign in to MSN

They're talking about MSN Messenger. You posted about not being able to sign into Hotmail. Sorry for misunderstanding you.

So your Hotmail address will still work for emails, and all your emails will still be there. But if you want to keep using MSN for the Messenger part, then you would have to upgrade to Skype. And at that point, yes, all old MSN Messenger chats will be lost.

But Skype does allow you to save chats - here is how to do it:

https://support.skype.com/en/faq/FA392/where-can-i-find-my-conversation-history-in-skype-for-windows-desktop-and-what-can-i-do-with-it

Or of course you can use another service like Yahoo messenger, etc.

NO, IT IS NOT about vj site itself.

Which is why I moved your thread out of the discussion area about the site itself into the discussion area about immigration processes.

MSN Messenger (the instant chat service) will be closed. But MSN Hotmail (the email service) will still work:

Messenger is going away, Hotmail is not, it is however morphing into Outlook.com

Outlook.com is a new service that runs alongside Hotmail.

Although we are encouraging our Hotmail users to upgrade, you don’t have to do so YET, but we suggest you familiarize yourself with it now.

Over time, the Outlook.com experience will continue to improve and we’ll eventually want to provide the Outlook user experience to everyone including users with an @hotmail.com address.

You can try Outlook without a new account and without changing your username/password – just use your @hotmail.com account to log into http://outlook.com.

It’s important to remember that, no matter when you upgrade, your @hotmail.com address will always work.
