Still no word from the embassy

Our package 3 was signed for at the London Embasssy on October 23rd, over three weeks ago. We still haven't received our package 4 with an interview date. Should we be worried?

We've seen some other K3 applicant couples on here who say they sent the package 3 in around the same time as us or even later and they've already had their interview!

Is it worth ringing the Visa Helpline (09042-450-100), or is that a waste of time and money? We've tried calling the NVC, but they told us that we needed to speak to the embassy itself.

Any help/advice/encouragement gratefully received....

PS - The one thing that may be delaying us is that we previously lived in the Netherlands, which for some reason is one of the countries that the Embassy has to apply directly for my police record. Has anyone any experience of this and would it delay our application this much?

I woudnt start t worry just yet. As long as you sent packet 3 special/recorded delivery and you know they got it. It took 2 weeks for me to get my interview letter, but that is concidered super quick! I would wait for 4 weeks to be up and then chase it up. If you didnt state a travel date then they wont priorotise you.

I am sure it will come very soon! Dont worry.

All the waiting gets to you doesnt it!

Good luck x

I would think police record is the hold up. They are not going to schedule the interview until it is received, in much the same way an interview isn't scheduled until you indicate on the check list you have the UK one.

Perhaps it is worth asking in the group that cover Holland if people there can give an idea as to how long it normally takes for the police certificate.

Thanks for that. Yes, the waiting without knowing what the hell is going on is really frustrating. We sent the package 3 by recorded delivery and it was signed for on the 23rd October.

We didn't specify a travel date, so maybe that's the problem.

BTW - I called that number and they were totally useless. The lady couldn't answer any of my questions. She suggested that we email the Embassy, but when we did that with regard to a query we had with notarising our affidavit of support, it took 4 weeks for them to reply, by which time my wife had needlessly flown back to the US to sort it out.

I would think police record is the hold up. They are not going to schedule the interview until it is received, in much the same way an interview isn't scheduled until you indicate on the check list you have the UK one.

I'll try that. Thanks.

Sounds like a right royal ** up on their part. I'm so sorry you're having to deal with all of this. I don't know what advice to offer really. Have you had no luck on the telephone? What did they tell you on there?

If you felt really cheeky you could sign up for another email address.....

When we went through this it took a month for the Embassy in London to "recieve" the packet. Even though it was signed for. The process is really slow at the embassy.

Annie spoke with her MP and they called the charge d' affairs at the US embassy to see if anything could be done.

I called the Embassy in London as a US citizen and plead my case, at the same time I contacted my Congressman and Senators to get help.

We managed to get the interview and subsequent Visa in the nick of time.

The embassy seems to only be able to function on high speed (some people get sorted out quickly) or slow speed (as you can attest to).

I can only assume that it is all processed in the order they receive it so, if they received 20 (probably many more) cases for processing before yours that week, they have to work through them first. It is the only thing that I can think as to why some things take so bloody long.

I had to wait 4 weeks after interview for my visa because they needed extra evidence. I sent it in within a week...but still had a 3 week wait after that. Yet all they had to do was read a very short letter signed by a notary...you wouldn't think that would take very long would you?

In all realism, you've GOT to hear something soon. But it is the not knowing that is the worst isn't it? If they could just tell you SOMETHING it would make it so much easier.

Keep on phoning the DOS, that's all I can recommend. Something will happen soon, I'm sure. I've got my fingers crossed. :)

I'd say keep phoning. If you set up another email it still has your same case number so they would know it was you(and on the banned list), which is no good!

Good luck K.
