A good impression is made within seconds of meeting, I would suggest dressing nice. A suit would be a little overboard but a nice pair of pants and shirt would be good.

Wardrobe questions aren't weird! It's all part of the process. Good luck with the interview.

I definitely think it is better to err on the side of "too nice" than "too bad" . . . I guess I am used to the job interview syndrome . . . appearances and first impressions.

I told my husband "no jeans" and definitely no "TIGHT jeans". I did say if he had something like a nice suit that it would be good . . . but don't go wearing fancy Italian suits and looking like "Mr Slick", hehe. I even suggested buying new underwear because feeling good about your clothes all over makes you feel better . . . might just be a female thing though, but at least he laughed about it.

My husband wore a suit. But then again, he also wore a suit on the plane here. He looks so cute in suits :luv: He said that many people showed up in jeans. I can't even fathom it. It's quite possibly the most important interview in your life, and you're going to wear jeans?

I know my husband picked up his medical envelope from the doctor and brought it with him, I believe. I don't think we included it in the envelope of things sent to the embassy.

My husband sent in the medical stuff with his packet 3. We thought that was required. I'm confused now.

I would say to either wear a suit or something business casual like khakis and a nice shirt or sweater. No jeans. Too unprofessional. I'd treat this like an interview for a job only more important.

We never had an interview over seas but I wore a pants suit and he wore a suit. It was March here and still fairly cold. When we were waiting to be called for our interview, the people in the waiting area were dressed in a variety of ways (jeans, t-shirts, skirts, dress pants, etc.)

I think just looking nice is the best idea.

Hmmm, maybe my memory is failing me. I'm not suprised though  The instructions for the embassy are pretty clear and say what must be included. If the medical stuff is on the list of things to send, send it.

It was on the list so he sent it. However, the affidavit of support was not on the list but we sent it anyways. At any rate Moh called the embassy to make sure everything was good with the packet 3 and the lady he spoke to said, yes. Alhamdulillah.

Mohammed sent his medical papers along with the packet back to TNT as he was instructed. He wore khakis and a collared shirt to the interview (business casual), ditched his sideburns, and got a nice haircut because he wanted to show them he's a respectable man and not a don.

my husband wore jeans and a button down shirt. he didnt look like a bum. i wore jeans and a tshirt. i probably did look like a bum. especially because i think i wore the same jeans and tshirt both times that we were at the consulate..

soooo i dunno... Algiers was pretty laid back. if we hadnt been traveling to get to the consulate in 105 degree heat, it might have been a different story. probably best to look a little more put together.

It is a huge battle for me to get Abdel into anything other than jeans so of course he wore jeans to everything we've done in this process (except our wedding, which I even had to fight to get him in dress pants for).

I think it's all part of being yourself. If you wear something that you aren't comfortable in, you're going to be more nervous and not do as well on the interview. Of course I wouldn't recommend wearing flip-flops, shorts and a tank top, but I don't think a suit is necessary either if you would feel uncomfortable in one.

Everyone, Thanks for your replies.

Sorry I didn't post anything until now but we were visiting my husbands family for the weekend and wasn't able to go online.

Yeah, I think we will probably go with dressy not too dressy. And my husband got his haircut so inshallah he will be ready to go.

Regarding the medical, the weird thing is that NVC letter stated all the things that they needed from us and on the page of the medical it says to bring with you to the interview. On the website it says to send it thru TNT. So thats the confusing part. I will email them today so we can know for sure.

Wearing a jeans or a suit will not effect the outcome of your interview. I agree with Liz, the more comfortable you are, the more comfortable you are.

I've been to my local office several times, wearing different things based on what I'd been doing that day. When I wore jeans, the officer was a b!tch, when I wore nicer clothes & heels coming directly from work, she was a b!tch. I'm pretty sure she didn't look at me for more than 2 seconds.

My husband has been to Casa a few times recently, wore jeans, and had an excellent experience every time with a CO that most everyone else says is a terrible wench. Clothes don't matter.

How can one claim God cares to judge a fornicator over judging a lying, conniving bully? I guess you would if you are the lying, conniving bully.

I say whatever makes you both the most comfortable. There is nothing wrong with looking nice. I agree with the person that said..if you are uncomfortable with what you are wearing, then you are going to look uncomfortable and just plain be miserable..

As for the medical... I believe he mailed the medical to them...I'll have to ask him tonight... I do know that he called every other day to make sure everything got there ok .. AND .. he made sure to have copies of everything just in case something didn't make it there.

hope this helps a bit :) Much luck on your journey!!!
