Our landlord for our apartment said she cant do a background check on my husband because he has no background history to do background checks on. SO i couldnt add him to the lease without this and she said once he is settle and gets a job than she will do a background check on him. I put his address down for this apartment that we are renting but he is not on the lease and we let the mailman know about this and we let the post office know about this and even landlord knows about this but still his mail are not arriving we went to the post office 3 times and they said the same thing he doesnt need to do a change of address as he is a new immgrant, we apply for his SSN and we cant seem to get his card in the mail. Has anyone has the same kinda trouble with new immigrant receiving mail?? this is so ridiculous......

What about C/O as in:

John Smith

C/O Susan Smith

123 Main Street

Any Town, CA, 12345

C/O = "Care Of"

Maybe this might help for a while?

In my case my wife is already receiving mail here without problems and she hasn't even done POE yet.

i've a remedy. use the advanced search tool, member name = 'Darnell', search words 'postman brownies namecard' then click on 'display as posts.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !
Ya know, you can find the answer to your question with the advanced search tool, when using a PC? Ditch the handphone, come back later on a PC, and try again.

Is the name on your mail box? this is also another way to fix it, put both your names on the mail box.

At first it was not than we notify landlord she inform the mailman who comes by everyday and let him know my husband lives with me but not on the lease so now i'm just hoping everything comes thru now..

Agree with putting the name on the mailbox. We got an excellent tip from the nice lady at the SSA when my wife was applying for her SSN. Be sure to file a change of address with the US Postal Service. We did it online, it cost a buck. The online system is kinka funky in that it would only allow me to enter an "old" US postal address for my wife and the "new" address as our home. So, I had to enter her "old" address as "General Delivery, Northern Mariana Islands." (Her actual previous address was in the People's Republic of China.) It worked, go figure. Bottom line.... it worked, we haven't had any mail delivery issues.

(Kinda makes me wonder why they are losing money??? :bonk: Not!)

YMMV.

so it was these two miscreants, ganging together, that caused all the fuss. UG !

Sorry about it, but in an apartment the postman handles his / her own nixies without conferring with anyone. No Name? Nixie !

Telling people by mouth does not help. The mail man would just not put the mail in the mail box. The only way we fixed this was by putting both our names clearly on the box and then the mail in my name was in the mail box, not sent back to sender.

You can tell mail carriers till you are blue in the face that you live there but they don't care or remember, if the name isn't on the box the mail doesn't get there lol.

You live in an apartment complex. Go to your mailbox, open it, inside the mailbox is usually a little card with your name on it. Make sure this card ALSO has your husbands name on it. If it doesn't, change it (this is not illegal, you are renting the apartment, this is YOUR mailbox).

The postal service will take all the mail for your box to your box, then check the card for the name. If the name isn't on the card, then you won't get the mail addressed to that person (unless it also says "or resident/tenant" on it.

Alternatively, you can get a post office box and have your mail delivered to that instead.

Also, regarding the background check. Can you provide the landlord with the copy of the UAE police report you used with your K-1 in order to speed things up? A background check once he gets established will still not turn up anything since it's just US-based. Just need to explain the logic to the landlord so they can get his name on the lease quicker. (A "real" police report from his country of origin or a blank one from the US after a few months.)

Good suggestion ..i dont know if this will do but i think i can try and ask my landlord if this can be a possibility as i needed to put him on the lease cause we are going to file our AOS soon...

Excellent news.

You don't HAVE to have him on the lease for AOS, or ROC for that matter. Bank accounts, joint bills, health insurance, car insurance, car titles, stuff like that is important. My husband and I own a house, bought it after we were married here in the US and I'm not on the mortgage OR deed. Never a problem.
