It's a crime to mail a US passport internationally outside of consular mail.

There is no room in this country for hyphenated Americanism. When I refer to hyphenated Americans, I do not refer to naturalized Americans. Some of the very best Americans I have ever known were naturalized Americans, Americans born abroad. But a hyphenated American is not an American at all . . . . The one absolutely certain way of bringing this nation to ruin, of preventing all possibility of its continuing to be a nation at all, would be to permit it to become a tangle of squabbling nationalities, an intricate knot of German-Americans, Irish-Americans, English-Americans, French-Americans, Scandinavian-Americans or Italian-Americans, each preserving its separate nationality, each at heart feeling more sympathy with Europeans of that nationality, than with the other citizens of the American Republic . . . . There is no such thing as a hyphenated American who is a good American. The only man who is a good American is the man who is an American and nothing else.

Thanks for responding. Somehow it is reassuring that this is not unusual or another weird Jamaican thing. .

Why do you need his physical passport for taxes, why can't he fax you a copy of the pages you need?

The IRS has changed its documentation requirements this year. So it has to be the original document or a certified copy only a couple of exceptions to the rule. The passport fulfills all requirements without the passport 2 pieces of identification are required.

Take 5 minutes of your time and you can come up with 5 legitimate reasons why fedex doesn't allow shipping of passports and why mails are often opened to see what's inside.

PS - Fedex only ships passports between individual and embassy, or embassy to embasy but not individual to individual.

Thank you for taking the time to respond. At the time I could care less about legitimate reasons for not shipping passports or why mail is opened. Experience has taught me to be leery and overwhelming frustration of it all -uscis and irs for starters .....caused my emotions to reign for that five minutes and I could not think clearly through the bevy of strong, strong feelings. But I get it.

Thanks for responding to my dazed and crazed rant.lol. I understand the law and accept it. I was really frustrated already and that little bit of a detour pushed me over the edge 12 days from tax deadline that we have been working on since February - i could write a book...Thank you again
