Why would you think they have never fired a gun? Seems an unusual, even outrageously ignorant, conclusion to make. Dare I say "biased". You actually believe that people who have never fired a gun will get a concealed carry permit and "run around" with them? Really?

Concealed carry classes (where required, not all states even require ANY instruction) do NOT teach people to shoot. EVER. They teach about the laws regarding the use of deadly force. SOME states have a shooting test, usually requiring 10 shots at 7 yards on a man sized silhouette and requiring 6 "hits". Illinois' law will require that in order to receive reciprocity a state MUST require a class of at least 10 hours. Illinois' law will not require a shooting component either.

The reason that the Utah class is favored in Illinois is that many of the classes are being done in urban areas (Chicago!) where a shooting component would be difficult to comply with due to facilitation.

If anyone here thinks for a moment that a concealed carry class teaches people to shoot it only demonstrates their ignorance of the issue. Please inform yourself...then post

When concealed carry is implemented crime goes down. People are protected by the presence of firearms in society which are not visible...ALL people, including children. This is the whole idea behind plain clothes police officers...HIDE THE GUNS! If you do not know who has guns, everyone is protected.

While a 10 year old kid may not be allowed to carry a gun, the person nextto him may be. The person coming around the corner may be. The presence of guns increases the RISK to the criminal and reduces crime, period.

Vermont children cannot carry firearms concealed, they must be 18 to do so. But Vermont is the "safest state" for children. I dare you to assault a child on a street in Burlington. Care to try?

I can promise you that a LOWER percentage of people carry concealed handguns in Vermont than in Texas. I promise. So what of the "more guns less crime" issue. I never said that, that was a low information poster assigning an argument to me I did not ask for. The difference is that in Vermont, everyone CAN carry a gun, not everyone does. ANY person over age 18 can be armed.

Reduced crime will benefit everyone Marvin.
