Original Documents for NVC for CR 1 visa

Hello All,

I am being told by the lawyer that we would need to submit original documents to the NVC.. I -130 was approved with copies of the documents. There is only one original each of Birth Certificate, Marriage Certificate and Police Clearance. I am not comfortable giving the NVC our only originals. Besides my spouse would need those for the interview. This requirement doesn't sound consistent with the rest of the process.

Any advice?

Thanks

My advice is to read the list of required documents for the NVC and to do what it says as far as submitting originals. Note that where it says "certified copies", it means copies that you order from the issuing agency.

My husband and I, anticipating this requirement, got duplicates of everything. Submit your originals where required, and take a moment to also request duplicates from the issuing agency so that you have them in case you need them. You may wish to wait until you have the duplicates in hand before you submit the required originals to the NVC, but that's your decision.

Your lawyer is right.

USCIS = copies

NVC = originals/certified copies

Interview = nothing needed, but copies are suggested

If possible, send certified copies to NVC, that way you can keep your originals in a safe place.

Yes, NVC forwards all documents to the embassy. After a successful interview, the birth and marriage certificates are returned to you. If divorce and/or military ones were submitted, they'll be returned as well.

Thanks correct, you need to submit the originals to NVC, and when ur file is being sent to US embassy for interview, all these docs will be sent over, and they will give it back to you after your interview.
