Hi all,

I am needing some help with the wording on this question.

Are you a male who lived in the united states at any time between your 18th and 26th birthdays in any status except as a lawful non-immigrant.

I entered in 2009 (aged 21) on CR1 marriage visa with a 2 year conditional GC, and got my 10 year GC last year. I am registered with the selective service, what should I answer to the above question, yes or no?

I'm thinking yes because I am a lawful immigrant, can someone confirm this for me?

Yes, you lived in the US. It just flags you to be asked for your Selective Service, which you have. Well done.

The only police interaction I have had since being here is running a red light, cop pulled me over, ran my info but let me go with a warning. I was not charged detained or cited, do I need to put this on the form?

I wouldn't

You lived a period in the U.S between 18 (21yrs) and 26 when you werent a LPR so you have to tell them what status u entered the U.S and answer YES or get a written statement about your selective service registration. That's what I did.

Thanks for the answers, help clears this up a lot!!

I have one more question, because of a screw up with my green card I had to get a new one issued (for free) in February 2013. Because my biometrics were done so recently do I get to "skip" that part of the naturalization process or is that a negative? New Orleans is my closest office and it's 220 miles away :(

You have a very good chance of skipping, but you still have to include the fee. Hopefully they will notice it's recent. Never any guarantees that USCIS will always be logical and attentive.

Thanks Nick - trust me I know, assume nothing, expect anything.

I had a few questions about documents for N-400, we have plenty of good stuff such as joint bank and credit card accounts, life insurance policies, tax transcripts, car titles and 2 kids that have both mine and her name all over it.

The one glaring omission is the mortgage, only I am on the mortgage and title/deed of the house, main reason back in 2011 her credit was shot and adding her into the mix was not a good financial move. Do you think this could be a stumbling block?

It wasn't a problem for us. The first house was my forever house. We moved and bought a new house. Super easy for me to get a pre-approval without bringing an unemployed Englishman with no US credit history in on the deal. And to boot, we have different last names, no kids, no beneficiary status on pension or work stuff. I actually don't work. I think these people are probably very good at knowing when somebody is in it for real, so I guess we just look that way. For naturalization we sent much, much less evidence than for removing conditions which was only one year before. I believe it was only tax returns and two more recent bank statements, and maybe a water bill we managed to get in both names. And of course the required documents. I prepared a folder to take to the interview with originals and more evidence. They never looked at anything...not even the stuff the "yellow letter" said to bring. Nothing. Zero. Zip. Yes, never assume anything, but I doubt a mortgage will be a stumbling block with all the other good stuff you have.

Ok so here is what I have for evidence.

2 Birth certificates for the children we have together

2009,2010,2011 and 2012 tax transcripts from IRS

Both life insurance policies with each spouse being the full beneficiary.

Car title that we jointly own

Checking account statements from various periods during the past 2 years (every 6 months I printed out the statement)

You think we are good to go?

I'm not going to say yay or nay because it's your application. All I will say is the things you listed, we sent plenty the year before to remove conditions. Maybe you didn't remove conditions so they wouldn't have much on you. I didn't go back for two years of bank statements, for example, or credit cards, driver licenses, car insurance, etc for naturalization. Looking at my folder just now, I just topped up the marriage evidence with --

1 checking account statement (most recent)

1 money market statement (most recent)

3 years of tax transcripts

I didn't even bother with a cover letter. I was quite frankly getting weary of USCIS and didn't bother to add icing and sprinkles on top of the basic cupcake they required.

Other people may have done much more elaborate marriage evidence, so you should see what they did to help you decide. Anybody else out there that can help Dan with an opinion

I recently removed conditions (Summer of 2011) not much has really happened since then apart from the birth of our 2nd child.

I feel I am good to go, one last thing, should I bother highlighting dates and names on my checking account statement to make things easier on the IO?

Your choice. I have always highlighted, since the very first fiancé petition.
