Im praying my story will be different! * arent we all! * any how my husband (fiance) and i have been 2gether a year and he proposed in October and in November i found the K-1 option for his visa and now were pursuing this... We spend everyday talking via fb chat, email, phone and skype and are 2gether almost all day and always everyday!! My husband is a christian from Nigeria & im from Michigan.. Ive been to Lagos a few times to see him and plan to go once more for his interview and to fly home with him.. Thats a summary of us... Goodluck to all petitioners and may God have a hand in your stories!!

I wish you the best of luck in your journey. I would like to offer one piece of advice. Stop using the word "husband" until after you are actually married.

When they process you, if they suspect you may be already married (even if you aren't) it will likely raise red flag warnings and could delay your case or cause a denial.

Consulates, Lagos especially, have been known to check out social media and sometimes emails. So you need to stop using the words husband and wife IF you are not married. If you are married you need to file the correct visa or you will be denied and have to refile and have twice the wait insteed of the quicker journey many think a K1 provides.

This will not be over quickly. You will not enjoy this.

We are not married.... And considering i sent in a divorce decree dated the same date my app was mailed im probly not too worried they wuld assume we got married without having any ways to do so... Were married in our hearts.. If thats illegal they can kiss my country white @$$ ... Plus my attorney is very good and im just not real worried about this issue... I will however, as stated above, stop using the term "husband" on this site as i dont want to cause any issues in a messy process and make it more lengthy. I appreciate all the advice.. Thank u for ur opinions.. Im happy to have others ways of thinking enlighten the situation becuz if im being judged here judgement day in the embassy will surely b rough and we dont want that!! Again, thank u so much i would not have thought not to use these terms in fear of sumbody being so stupid to think we ran off n got married n didnt bother to change the forms used... I paid good money to an attorney to file a k-1 im not goin to mess it up by a pre mature marriage.. But maybe some do.. Idk..

I hope there is no waiting time for remarriage where you are. More than one VJ member has jumped the gun on that and been denied after a long wait. For example California has a 2 week wait so you would have to wait 2 weeks after the final decree to file. It is also a red flag to file immediately after divorce, hopefully you don't have others or your chances of approval through Lagos go from dismal to inches short of hopeless.

This will not be over quickly. You will not enjoy this.

I have an attorney.. Where do u get your information? There is no 2 week wait before filing.. Theres is no specified waiting. The law days u must b legal to remarry.. Ive been seperated for 3 years and the final hearing long ago but the x didnt pay the fee so i had to do that to make it a legal divorce and i cant see being held of for such nonsense.. I was legal to remarry the same day i paid the judgment fee and that is the only requirement that immigration has on that issue.. Ur mis informed or just talking out ur @$$ 1 of the 2

Charlie Angel 13,

You did not have to be so disrespectful to NigeriaorBust in your last post. They were just offering you sound advice. Yes, we are all aware that you have an attorney, but I promise you by the end of your journey you're going to either loved that you invested so much money or hate that you invested so much money. I hope you and your fiance have smooth process. In addition, I hope you are ready for the Nigerian Embassy as well. May you have a wonderful year. Look forward to your progress.

Blessings to you!

eta: NigeriaorBust is a very well respected member on this site. heeding her advice and not going out of your way to alienate her would be most beneficial for any member, especially when one shares the same beneficiary country. :)

I appreciate advice from those giving accurate information... I do not however like advice thats given just for one to simply hear themselves speak... I have great respect and im given much respect in my life but i also stand up for wat i believe in and one simply stating unfounded statements is not something i respect nor should it be given respect.. Ppl here in this social community come to this site for advice and support not opinions of those obviously bitter about something... That nigeriaorbust states alot of opinions as if they know facts and in just the few days ive been a member of this site ive had enuff!! Buttout if u have negative things to say unless its legitamate and factual!! And im sorry my keypad has the @ sign n $ symbols..i will refrain from combinding them again...

she's not bitter - just seen more than a few relationships go sideways on the site and dozens more denied at the consulate level due to hardheadedness/lack of planning. and yes, she does know facts and she does offer good advice.

you might do better with members if you took the chip off your shoulder. i've seen some come in with the same attitude you're showing, and they usually wind up in the same spot - no one gives them advice due to their attitude and argumentative nature and then their petition crashes and burns at the consulate, and they drift off somewhere else.

if you don't want to see what nigeriaorbust has to say, put her on ignore. it's that simple.

Well i do take advice from many.. Im a social worker and can guarantee u i have no chip on my shoulder. I actually believe the nigeriaor bust person displays that type of attitude therefore i responded in thus manner... I greatly appreciate this venue of communication with others goin thru the same process. As for advice, i paid an attorney for that, a visa specalist and aside from long waiting times i dont suspect any issues. My attorney as well as the USCIS both told me today that a 2 week waiting time between divorce judgments and filing is not accurate wen i called them in a panic after reading her post.. USCIS was the first i got a hold of.. Then my attorney returned my call n both confirmed the innaccuracy of her statement.. The other bad advice (opinion) she gave me the first day, another patron on this site corrected her when she rudely blurted out that Nigeria has an automatic OP after the interview.. (Also made me freak out) and was also confirmed to b poor advice and not true thru my attorney.. I just feel if u give sumbody advice.. Plz try and go on experience or factual basis... Dont just start talking to discourage ppl! Thats disrespectful in its purest form and rather ignorant.. But for all those on here kind and caring and supportive, i believe God blesses them for assisting others and for their comfort.. Overly opininated ppl that do carry a "chip" r destructive and not of any real help.. Sorry if i over did it on my response.. Im just here for the same reason anybody else is
