I stupidly did not copy my I-751 application, so I don't remember the dates I put down for our start date at current residence and end date of the previous one. Now I'm getting ready for citizenship application and I want the dates to match up.

The landlady at our current address had given us a grace period of 2 weeks that we could move in prior to start date on lease in Nov 2011. So I don't know if I used the start date in the contract or the actual start date factoring in the two weeks prior! And I neglected to copy the information. I'm such an idiot. I'm SCREWED!!!

Don't stress too much. You can always just say in the cover letter that you don't remember the exact date, but you know it was between this period and that period. Lots of folks who travel to Canada by car have to put ?? for the day slot when it comes to travel as there are no stamps in the passport to remind them.

Go with the start date you actually moved in. If there us any questions at your interview you can explain that. It shouldn't be a big deal if your off by a couple of months. You'll be ok. I made a mistake at my interview concerning travel dates and was able to correct it at the interview. Good luck with your n-400! good.gif

After that extremely long AOS stage, asked what's next. Was told about that I-751 and N-400, wrote those down and looked those up when we got home. Was such a confusing mess, ha, I still ask people I meet if they ever heard of the USCIS, usually reply, don't you mean the NCIS, that TV show. Nobody I met so far ever heard of the USCIS. I did hire a top immigration attorney for guidance. Was well worth the small flat fee he charged. His first piece of advice was to make duplicated copies of all the applications, because the USCIS tends to lose them, then you really have a mess. Because I did this, and several of our applications were "misplaced", I had those, but because I did have those, they managed to find our applications.

When I first looked over that N-400, was just a repeat of everything we already done. Filling out that form was a copy and paste operation, from the I-130, the G-325A's, the I-485's, and the I-751, just required some updating.

Perhaps spending six years in our military forced me to learn how to keep records, then dealing with many government agencies. Ha, in the military, saved my butt from a court martial because I had two sets of orders that required me to be in two different places at the same time. With the IRS, law requires you to keep your tax returns for three years, but if audited, its five years. Actually that is five years, if not audited, can toss those old tax returns.

Never saw anything from the USCIS telling you to keep records of your applications, so feel they are partially to blame. They are very loose in such things as telling guys to apply for selective service, but sure there to hang you if you don't.

Since I had that N-400 on my computer, would record a trip as soon as we returned, but again it was a copy and paste operation, because we had to download the latest form, but at least the information was there. Then they wanted the exact same evidence they already received one or twice before. Already scanned that and just had to put in 2 for copies on my computer.

Too bad you didn't prepare yourself, but again, never told to do this. Maybe it was my boy scout training, "Be Prepared" was their motto.
