Question. I submitted the DS-261 yesterday. Neither the AOS nor the IV bills were invoiced. How long does it take normally for NVC to invoice these? I'm not panicking or anything. I read the posts that they might be working on billing them (since it is saying that they no longer recognize my numbers when trying to login). I'm just wondering. I think one of the posts said that it takes about 15 days for the IV to be invoiced from the time that you submit the DS-261. But I'm more wondering about the AOS.

I literally just got the emails from NVC for the invoicing of the AOS after I typed this. lol.

Typically the AOS is invoiced a few days after the case number is assigned. You're signing onto the payment portal on IE, right?

I like your signature by the way! ;)

Thanks! I find it extremely useful! It's a lot easier for me to organize the process. All thanks to the great and powerful Wizard of VJ, Saylin!

I didn't realize that signing in using IE actually helps. I was using Firefox originally. I tried again with IE and got the invoice! Sweet! Thanks, Saylin!

After the ds-261 has been reviewed they will invoice the IV payment. You can see how long it took me via my siggy.

Question: even if you make below the amount required to file is it not a good idea to file anyhow? Maybe the USA works differently than Canada on this but in Canada the taxes I pay when I work are refunded to me if I'm in school fulltime.

It's always good to file, unless you didn't make ANY money or didn't receive money from any source. Then you're just wasting money on filing in that situation. But you'll likely get your taxes back in the US, too. I find the US has more tax breaks than Canada, in general. Some different ones, but definitely more. I do my wife's taxes for her.

After the ds-261 has been reviewed they will invoice the IV payment. You can see how long it took me via my siggy.

Thanks!

Of course you can get an appointment, but if New Delhi is anything like Guayaquil, USCs are sent to a different part of the building than immigrants, so you probably wouldn't even be anywhere near your wife. Plus, I don't know how comfortable I would feel getting an appointment for something for the mere purpose of entering the building, and then ignoring said appointment. What if someone at the consulate were to realize what was happening? Finding out the USC spouse is a liar doesn't seem like a positive way to start the intending immigrant's interview day. unsure.gif It just kind of smells like trouble to me.

You are right - in fact the embassy responded back to me clearly

With regards to your query, we would like to inform you that, the applicants who applied for the visa are only allowed inside the Embassy/Consulate. You may accompany her till the security gate of the Embassy/Consulate. We will not be able to schedule an appointment for you to accompany your spouse on the date of interview.

So they are saying that only the applicant is allowed for the interview.

In the USA, if you earned under x amount, and file, you get 100 percent refund on the taxes the employers held for you.

Hey everyone,

As per the advice of many of you - especially Saylin - I understood that I need to keep calling NVC and then DOS to track the packet and check the status on when it has arrived to the embassy.

My case was complete on April 1st and an interview date was assigned for my wife at the US Embassy in New Delhi on May 9th.

I called NVC yesterday and she mentioned that the package has already reached the US Embassy in New Delhi on April 5th. I asked them if I can get the DHL tracking number either from them or from DOS and she said that they don't give out tracking numbers.

I am surprised a bit that the case was complete on April 1st and the packet reached New Delhi on April 5th - is that the normal time frame. I am also wondering, how did NVC know that the packet reached the embassy? Is that not something that only DOS will be able to tell you.

Basically I just want to make sure that the packet with all the original documents has arrived safely.

Should I call DOS anyways and check or is NVC's information sufficient?

how are you all getting IV fee bill notices within a day or two of your AOS fee bill notice? I want to pay the IV bill but the NVC rep told me it could take 10 to 15 days after receiving the notification of agent and address.

I have a lawyer on file so I got both bills the same day.

Hey Salin,

I had mailed my AOS package, but received a checklist on some additional items they needed. They want an explanation of why taxes weren't filed (for the three most recent years). Would that be 2009, '10 and '11? I was asking because I don't think I'll be able to mail them the forms they need until next Monday, which is the 15th of April and that's when taxes should have been filed by. However, this is my case:

2009,2010,2011: I was a full time student, a dependent, and unemployed with no income

2012: I was also a full time student, a dependent, and worked part-time so I did not file because my income was below the requirement.

This is from NVC:

[x] It appears that there is no proof of current employment (a recently dated job letter or pay stub), or of

self-employment status (a recently dated letter on business letterhead or a business license).

[x] A written statement/explanation as to why tax returns were not filed is required if you are/have been

unemployed, retired or dependent.

[x] The submitted income tax documents/IRS statements for the years marked below are missing/incomplete (if

you have lost any of the requested tax information, contact your local IRS office to obtain a copy) (Only

Federal returns (not state or local) are acceptable unless the sponsor's income was earned in Puerto Rico.)

• Schedules are missing for the year(s):

[x] 2011 [ ] 2010 [ ] 2009 [ ] 2008.

• Federal income tax returns, literal printouts from the IRS (RTFTP) or a Letter 1722 issued by IRS

are missing/incomplete for the year(s):

[x] 2011 [ ] 2010 [ ] 2009 [ ] 2008.

• W-2 forms are missing/incomplete for the year(s):

[x] 2011 [ ] 2010 [ ] 2009 [ ] 2008.

[x] You have not enclosed an explanation of why you were not required to file income taxes under Federal tax

laws for any/all of the 3 most recent tax years. (Residence outside of the U.S. or retirement does not exempt a

U.S. Citizen or LPR from filing a Federal tax return. Individuals who were required to file a Federal tax return but

failed to do so are advised to file late returns.)

I called NVC and asked her what year they needed my letter for, and she said only for 2011. My question is, that should I go ahead and also write about why I didn't file for the 2012 year along with it? I don't want them to send me another RFE/checklist for 2012 to ask why I didn't file, but I also don't want to send them additional info and make the situation cloudy. Other than that, I am going to send in my current pay stub and I had already sent them my W2s for 2012. Also, at the time I sent in the AOS for my joint sponsor, he didn't have 2012 yet. They didn't ask for it yet, but if I sent it this time, will I get an RFE for my joint sponsors 2012 too?! Please help!!

Thanks!

Anyone? :)
