I assume your marriage certificate is not issue by US government, that mean it will need to be translated by CERTIFIED translator only with their SEAL stamp on it (they want to see OFFICIAL SEAL and not some Joe-Smo translation) otherwise that documents is no good. READ NVC GUIDELINE ON WHEN SUBMITTING FOREIGN DOCUMENTS and where to go and get it translated.

If you're already resubmitted the original, at this time I would contact the place where you got married and obtain another official copy than to a certified translator ASAP.

Hi Readerchoice,

We called back to clarify if they are not accepting what we sent or they don't see marriage certificate as part of the package. It turns out, they do not have the marriage certificate. This is strange as I've sent the original marriage certificate and I made sure that I added a sticky note that has NVC Case #, beneficiary's name, beneficiary's dob, and Form DS-230 written on it. So we've asked them to recheck the case and make sure they really do not see the marriage certificate. If they don't then they must have lost it because I am very sure we sent it.

In meantime, we will try to see if we can get another copy of marriage certificate issued from India (unnecessary delay IMO).

Thanks for your input!! :)

It doesn't need to be translated by a professional translator, I did all ours and I'm no professional. It just needs a letter/certificate accompanying it to say the translation is true and accurate. In fcat if the doccuments are in the same language as the country applicant is being interviewed at they shouldn't need to be translated at all.

champi you are going to have to try and get a certified copy from the issuing body while you wait for a supervisor review, did you include a photocopy of it?

The original marriage certificate we sent is actually in English and native language, that's how it is issued by the local state government in India. So it doesn't require any translation. But yes, we do plan to start the process of getting another copy of Marriage certificate issued by local authority in India. It's just going to take a while since both my husband and myself are in US so we don't have any close relative in India to run around the government offices for this. My mother in law is too old to do these things by herself.

In any case, I just hope NVC finds our marriage certificate. If they find it, there shouldn't be an issue in accepting it as we've used that marriage certificate during my hsuband's CR-1 immigration journey, his removal of conditional on green card and most recently when he became US citizen. I just wish they didn't lose it.

Thanks for your suggestion!! :)

Yes, re-send it. But follow the tip on post 2 for a fast approval this time.

I just resent yesterday using the "Supervisor Review" trick and I got a reply in 8 hours

Wow, these guys typically don't work until a supervisor is involved eh

Alas, a certified translation is not required, when using the translator's attestation statement.

It could be anyone, really.

I want to call the NVC to see what's going on with the case but I'm not sure how to word it? "hey just wanted to see what's going on? Did you get the IV email and DS-260? How about the AOS email?" Sound okay? Not sure why I'm nervous about calling... LOL

Uncle Darnell's handy dandy questions for EP and emailed stuff

1. Did you detach the civil docs and add them to the casefile yet?

2. Do you show completion on the DS-260 yet? If so, is it sitting in a reviewer's queue or no ?

3. When do you think the DS-260 will be added to the casefile ?

4. Did you detach the I-864 set and add it to the casefile yet?

That's about it, for Canadiens...

Go Get Em !

I was a little nervous about calling them too, lol. But I had my list of questions ready that I wanted to ask, and it was quite comfortable. The rep. was really nice and helped me a ton and answered all of my questions. Don't be nervous, they are there to help you!

NVC TeleOperators know nothing about EP, emailed forms. Be prepared to train them, each phone call.

Okay Darnell I promise to send Saylin some powdered gravy. She might need to find the cheese curds on her own though.

So as I had been thinking it will be nice to have to call the NVC to check progress of AoS and IV packages...I was SO WRONG. Am I the only one who is made to feel so small by those operators? haha "well when did you send it? you have to wait 20 days and then we will send you information on the next step" I just wanted to scream, "I KNOW IT DOESN"T ALWAYS TAKE 20 DAYS!!!!" But I was polite and will call back tomorrow or Wednesday. i knew it was a long shot since the AoS just got there last Monday and IV last Wednesday, but you can't blame a wife for trying! I think they need to allow people like us who have been through this to be the ones to work there. Compassion...yes we are calling all the time but separated from our loved ones anyone would do the same!

Guy was pretty pleasant... Blah blah can't see email stuff but if you have the auto response we got it. Wait 20 business days blah blah... So I was nice and said "well I guess in about 20 business days I'll be calling back to make sure everything is good to go! HAHA!" He says "sounds like a plan." laughing.gif

I'll call back on Friday or next monday. That gives them some time for the AOS.
