I think I found my answer. According to the Reciprocity Schedule

http://travel.state.gov/visa/fees/fees_5455.html?cid=8996

I-type visas for Bosnian citizens are valid for 12 months.

No. 6 months.

"I-type visas" are media visas. They are non-immigrant.

Family based immigrant visas are good for 6 months, in general. See Additional Information here: http://travel.state.gov/visa/immigrants/types/types_1306.html#additional

Thanks.

I thought "I" stands for Immediate relative.

That Department of State website just says that you need to enter the US "before the expiration date printed on your visa", but ti doesn't say for how long the visa is issued. Which is what my original question was.

I doubt that we'll be done in 2 months, but I guess if they schedule the interview before 06/15, we could ask to reschedule it.

That's what it means. "For how long the visa is issued" is 6 months. Once it is issued you have 6 months to enter the US. After that time, it is expired and you cannot use it to enter the US. Am I just not understanding your question?

Yes it does say how long it is issued for.

You didn't read Additional Information like I told you. It's the last sentence of that paragraph. Here, I'll post it for you:

Additional Information

Immigrant visa applicants should not make any final travel arrangements, dispose of property, or give up jobs until and unless visas are issued. Some visa applications require further administrative processing, which takes additional time after the visa applicant's interview by a consular officer. An immigrant visa is generally valid for six months from the issuance date.

No, I think we are understanding each other. I was just saying that the web site doesn't mention 6 months. I couldn't find where they say that the stamp in the passport will be 6 months from the visa approval date.

Searching here on VJ, the common answer is "it's usually 6 months", but I just couldn't find on the government web site how much time they give you after approval till you have to travel.

Thank you!

This was probably asked in different threads, but it's kinda lazy Monday over here, and I know you guys would know this right of the bat...

With visa in hand, how much time does one have to enter the US? 1 year?

I am planing to bring mom here in late December of this year, so in case she gets visa before mid June, I hope the time-frame for entering is not 6 months.

You can always take your time with sending the AOS and IV packets and perhaps prolong the process that way? Good luck!

Now that we know we have just 6 months, I'll probably do that.

It will be painful, as I just wanted to get everything out my hands as soon as possible. You know how that is.

But we'll stretch it out a bit. We'll see how long it takes for NVC to receive our case.

Thanks Avram!

Generally once the DS 261 is accepted it takes NVC about a day or so to invoice the IV fee bill. When did you send the DS 261?

Thank you for your response, I did receive an email confirming that they did receive the ds261. Hopefully our IV fee shows up soon, Thank you

I emailed out the DS-3032 on March 27th. Today is April 8th already and I still haven't heard back anything from NVC yet. Should I send another email ? :(:help:

Yes, re-send it. But follow the tip on post 2 for a fast approval this time.

Our visa approved!!!!!

Congrats! kicking.gif

Case completed April 5!!!! :D Now I am going to try to get them to expedite the interview. Wish me luck.

Congrats! And good luck!

Just got my I-130 approved over the weekend! Finally get the chance to join the NVC filers thread! :)

Yay, grats! Please go to posts 1 and 2 and read, read, read the information.

It's typically 6 months or less. You'll find the expiration date on the visa once it's obtained. If you can't immigrate before the expiration, you can ask for an extension, but it's not guaranteed.

Hi everyone,

I love reading about your progress so it gives me a timeframe as to when ours will be approved (if everything goes well).

I m preparing all the documentation ready to be sent out whenever required, especially the I864 and have a question re this form: my husband is our main sponsor, he did not earn enough in the last 3 years so did not have to file taxes. He has written a letter explaining the matter, and we plan on sending relevant documentation W2 for 2010 and payslips for 2011 and 2012. My question is, will copies of those payslips be sufficient?

He actually worked in the UK in 2011 and 2012, is there anything else we should include with the payslips?

Also, my in laws are both co-sponsors, do we also need to provide originals for them (ie employment letter for my mother in law, bank statement for assets and retirement letter for my father in law) or will copies suffice?

Thanks for your help, as always!

:D

Yes, copies are fine for W2s and pay stubs. No need to send originals.

Proof of income can always be photocopies. The employment letter though needs to be the original as it has HR's/supervisor's original signature on it.

I have a question I paid the AOS fee and is showing paid now, also submitted the DS261, I'm getting ready to sent in the Aos package, When will my Iv fee will show up so I can pay it? After they receive my Aos package? thank you

The IV fee typically is invoiced a few days after acceptance of the Choice of Agent form.

Remember, the IV and AOS are two separate tracks and have nothing to do with one another.

I think I found my answer. According to the Reciprocity Schedule

http://travel.state....5.html?cid=8996

I-type visas for Bosnian citizens are valid for 12 months.

An I visa is NOT the same thing as an IR-1/CR-1 visa. Those are two very different visas. Please refer to my response above. It's 6 months or less.

Give it another two days and if you haven't received an email acceptance by then re-send it, this time with SUPERVISOR REVIEW as the start of the subject line. There is a lot more information in the first two posts of the thread, I don't know if you've had a chance to take a look. Good luck!

You can't re-send the DS-261 as it's an online form. This is very different than emailing the DS-3032.

The husband phoned the NVC this morning and our case is now complete :) they said that they are waiting for an appointment at the Bern (Switzerland) embassy, apparently the is only one appointment per month... does this sound right? If it is, that sucks :(

Yay, congrats on the case complete! kicking.gif

That does sound a little odd blink.gif But you never know with these embassies. If you don't hear this from any other operator, then I'd say it's a fluke.

AOS Packet was accepted!!! YAY!!! I sent them a day apart so hoping my IV package is reviewed tomorrow so I can either get a case complete or a checklist. I knew the AOS was 100% correct the IV I am nervous I could have something fingers crossed. This nightmare process is almost over.

Woohoo, grats! kicking.gif I bet case complete by the end of the week ;)
