Thanks everyone!!

I have a few questions.

I received only one email with a pdf that says that the case was complete, interview assigned and case sent to the embassy. Do we expect any more emails from NVC now?

For ensuring that the documents have been forwarded to the us embassy, do we need to call NVC or just trust that the documents will get there before the interview date?

I want to go with my wife to the interview if I can get a few days off. Are we allowed to join our spouse for the interview and if yes, is there some process that we need to go through to actually be allowed in the embassy for the interview.

Are there any pros and cons to being with the spouse physically during the interview?

Nope, that should be the last email from NVC. If you're to get another email, it'd be from the embassy.

You need to call NVC to find out when the case was sent out, and then DOS a few days after it was sent out to make sure it arrived safely.

Some embassies/consulates allow US citizens inside, others don't. In some places (DR if I remember correctly), the petitioners are practically required, otherwise you're not approved. Canada, for example, lets the petitioner in with no issues and they're even allowed inside the interview room. It varies by embassy/consulate, so you'll need to check your country's website as well as any info you can dig up here on VJ. If you can't find info online, contact the embassy directly to get your answer. If you are allowed inside, all you're need is your US passport, along with your beneficiary.

Pros = moral support for the spouse, shows bona fide evidence in a way

Cons = petitioner may get asked questions (in MENA countries, this can mean separate rooms being grilled)

It's ultimately up to and your spouse though (and of course the embassy to let you inside). Personally, for our case, my husband did not join me. It would have been a waste of money as I was in and out within 2 hours. And he probably would have made me more nervous somehow. Plus, he would have been distracting and I wouldn't have been able to absorb as much information as I did laughing.gif But, I'm from Canada, an easy place to interview where the petitioner is definitely not required or needed to be there. Other countries are different.

I suggest you message the embassy. That is what I did. I was told I would not be allowed in and the interview was just for my husband.

IV bill took quite a while to generate for me. Plus there was a holiday weekend last weekend.

Also when you're having trouble loggin in, that generally means they're generating a bill. You can also call and ask if the DS-261 has been reviewed yet.

Easter isn't a stat holiday in the US, so NVC was working.

Our IV bill seemed to take way too long as well. :clock:

I meant good friday.

Maybe it's not a federal holiday down there.... hrm....

Woohoo, yay! kicking.gif

My suggestion: keep in contact with NVC until they confirm the case was indeed sent out and you have an exact date. Then give it a few days, then call up DOS to confirm the case has arrived at the embassy. Once it has, give them an additional day or two to process the paperwork. And then contact the embassy. Do they have an email address? If all they have is an emergency line, well, use it :P If it's not the appropriate situation to use it, they'll tell you and you can just ask how you're supposed to contact them.

Thanks so much Saylin (can't thank you enough...). I'll follow your advice:-)

They said that since it wasn't embossed, that it wasn't original. However, the UK doesn't emboss documents, it is just on watermark paper. So we sent another with a receipt showing it was provided by the Registrar. However, they approved before they got the second copy!

The interview is May 15th.

Ugh frustrating as they won't schedule our interview until we get a case complete and literally all we are waiting for is them to review this new birth certificate which is in the building! :(

Nope no Good Friday either, hubby works in banking industry and gets the federal holidays off and only had a two day weekend.

But that’s good news. It means they were working.

So... Case complete:-)... finally!!!

NVC said my case will leave to the embassy shortly and asked me to call back tomorrow to find out. They do not know how the embassy will go by scheduling the interview and contacting me. So I guess in a few days I will start contacting the embassy although in Algiers they have no contact info... only an emergency line that I am reluctant to use... advice?

Congrats!

Hi everyone,

Yesterday I got an email from NVC marking that my case was complete and an interview date was assigned. I was in my wife's country visiting for the past two weeks so never got a chance to call NVC to check up on the case. Last week I got a checklist which turned out to be a false checklist (AOS packet received, waiting for Packet IV).

The email from NVC came with a pdf attachment that states

The NVC has completed processing the case of the beneficiary and forwarded it to the American Embassy in New Delhi.

An interview has been scheduled on 05/09/2013

I am very happy to hear this. I have updated my signature.

I was just wondering if this is the usual process because I have seen that in some other cases, the case complete email is sent, then the interview date is assigned after a few days to a few weeks? Or am I mistaken. The pdf that was attached in the email states that the case was completed, interview date assigned and the case has been forwarded to the American embassy all at the same time.

Thank you everyone for all your help.

Now I have to read up on what the next steps to prepare for the interview is.

Congrats! Yeah I think it's all over the place, maybe they have random batches when they schedule interviews, if you get case complete you could get lucky or sit and wait. sad.gif
