How are you guys assembling your packets.. with staples or paper clibs or acco fasteners??

I read somwhere on the instructions on the NVC website that it said to "make sure all pages are stapled together".. IT surprised me that they wanted things stapled. What have you guys done?

edit: oops, quoted speedwells last post by mistake

lol yeah I didn't staple my Singaporean fish soup :)

It took me less time to do than to describe. I stapled things together if they went together (for example, two pages of the same flight itinerary). Then I used a small binder clip to hold each section together, added separator sheets, topped it with a cover letter, topped everything with the bar code sheet, then used a medium binder clip to hold the whole packet together. It looked more or less like this when it was done:

bar code sheet

overall cover letter

colored paper separator

required documentation including originals

colored paper separator

copies of required documentation

colored paper separator

cover letter explaining front loaded stuff

front loaded stuff

3M makes this excellent removable Post-It tape, so I got some in a nice bright green and made labels to mark everything with the NVC case number (if it didn't say it already), so if it got separated from the file, they would still know who it belonged to. And I can peel the label off our marriage certificate without damaging it, later. If you can't get removable tape, you should mark your NVC case number on your pages somewhere anyway.

Was this the "right" way to assemble my packet? I don't know, but 25 years of working in offices, much of that as a secretary, tells me it is at least organized, efficient, and unlikely to be separated easily, but still easy to examine and to place in a case file. I just hope they don't two-hole-punch our wedding certificate

Oh I agree, I was very fussy about the whole packet. I certainly do not expect everyone to do what I did. For one thing it was a lot of work. For another thing it's not required! :)

Good morning all,

I'm advising you to call the NVC and tell them. I work in IT, and there's a IT help desk principle that if people don't call and tell tech support there's a problem, tech support neither knows there's a problem, nor knows the extent of the problem.

My paid invoice for the IV bill is also showing as IN PROCESS even though it cleared my bank days ago. There is definitely something wrong with the status check site. I am going to call and find out if it is also wrong at NVC, or if they can see the true status.

The rep at the NVC says that the issue is with the Department of State website, and to keep checking the payment portal to see when my IN PROCESS changes to PAID. There is nothing that the NVC can do about the State Department website problem. They did not seem to be able to tell that my payment cleared my bank several days ago. They did send our case file for review, but the rep today noticed that the rep I spoke to yesterday marked it as a DS-260 (that London does not handle) instead of the DS-230 that we sent in. A typo, but I was grateful to the rep this morning for noticing that and correcting it.

Nic eof them that they noticed and acknowledged a mistake from their part!

It is strange though that they can not do anything about it because if you try to contact their technical department, you need to email the NVCenquiry mailbox...
