The temporary green card is a combination of the visa itself with a standard entry stamp placed on the page next to the visa, not a special stamp by itself.

Ok, thanks for the clarification; I've seen it put that way in other threads, but it is good to know what that actually is in practice! :)

Oh... I just got off the phone with the NVC. When your Affidavit of Support is reviewed, it is not actually "approved" or "denied", the rep said. It is simply looked over for the embassy/consulate. When they review it and find that everything is in order, and you call for the status, they will tell you that it's "fine". If they needed anything, they would e-mail you (assuming you have registered your e-mail address with them).

I believe the term they use is "accepted"

Interesting.

I know they had to request a report from (2) different counties, so I'm curious to see what it will look like.

They checked with the actual local police dept, then the county dept because we lived in the outskirts where there is no police dept.

I would assume the county dept would sort of cover it all anyways lol.

It has to have something on it saying the National Criminal Records repository (or CPIC) was checked or something similar.

It seems strange that they would check with a neighbouring county when it’s supposed to go to the National DB.

Thanks, I'll make sure it does.

I told them exactly what it was for.

Hey there :) Your spouse visa is a one-time entry visa. The stamp in your passport you get at entry, however, can be used as a "temporary green card" for going and coming, and you can use your green card once you receive it, so you will no longer need ESTA.

Many people must return to their home country to wrap up things after they first enter the US, but don't spend too long outside the country to avoid questions or even looking like you are abandoning your green card (ordinary business travel or vacation travel should be fine). Make sure your passport in the country of which you are a citizen is properly renewed and good for travel.

For LPR traveling outside of USA don't forget to request "re-entry permit" that form can be found on USCIS and the cost is $300 a pop Ouch!!!. Now I heard you don't need it if a person leaving for longer than a 1 month or more? but in other cases I see people doesn't have any problem.

I'm sad. My lawyer told me I don't need to send a letter to NVC telling them why my 2012 income is 0. So she sent the AOS without that letter and now I'm worried :crying:

Hmm......I remember I-864 instruction did said.....If you didn't pay taxes, you will need to write a letter explaining why.

Re-Entry permits are for long extended stays outside of the US.

1 year... more... that kind of thing.

I know for fact USC travel outside of USA for pleasure (except business) maximum staying is 6 months and should be check in/back to USA before another departer. Now I see case where others go longer (over 1 year), when they coming back be prepare for questions in the custom office.

LPR holder been suggested if you're leave USA for longer than 1 or 3 months (not sure 1 or 3) according to USCIS call conversation with an operator, but she did mention to be safe you should have one regardless the stay if you're an LPR holder. when I was in the process of IR-1 for my wife several years ago this is what I ran into.

And yes it does also applied to LPR leaving longer than 1yr too.
