Hello everyone,

My category is: son over 21 of a US citizen.

My Priority date is July 2007.

My petition was approved.

I am waiting for a visa.

Is there anyone around here in a similar situation? Do you know what are the next steps after your visa number becomes current? Do you know how long it usually takes to get an EAD after my visa number is due?

When your PD becomes current, you will receive an interview letter from NVC. You will need to undergo a medical examination before the Interview date. You will also receive a checklist of what documents to bring at the interview.

For the documents:

- your valid passport

- your birth certificate

- your updated police clearance

- petitioner and joint sponsor's updated i864 and most recent ITR and W2

- if joint sponsor is married, include also his/her spouse's most recent ITR and W2

- pictures of you and your petitioner together

You won't need an EAD when you arrive in the US. You will automatically receive a 10-year GC and can work anytime, anywhere in the US.

Here is the link for the Visa Bulletin.

These are the current Priority Dates. Those with I-130 petitions filed on or before those dates have visas available to them. Those with dates after that must wait until more visas are available..

You can guess how much longer you approximately have to wait by comparing your PD with the current PD. If the current PD is one year ahead of your PD, then you have approximately another year before a visa becomes available to you.

This is imprecise. It's only a general approximation which is the best guess you can make.
