I have my NOA1, March filer here. My Fiancee worked in Hong Kong for 7 years so we will have to get the CNCC from Hong Kong. I have heard that takes about 45 days. My question is, can she fly to Manila and complete her medical while waiting for the Hog Kong police clearance? How long are the medical results good for. She is in the Philippines, lives in Cebu. I hope to be able to be there for her interview and then pick up the Visa and have her fly back with me if everything goes well. Any advice or suggestions are welcome. I have been reading a lot here and trying to plan ahead.

On a side note, I am encouraging her to post any questions she has for you here also, but she is worried about her grammar. I assured her that no one here is judging her English skills, which are really quite good. So maybe all the VJ'ers here could tell her it does not matter.

Thanks for this excellent community and the helpful answers and support from all here.

Happy Easter.

Your fiancée is welcome to post in the Philippines forum in her native language.

Your fiancée doesn't need her Hong Kong police clearance in order to complete her medical. Keep in mind that her visa will be valid for only six months from the date of her medical. Most people complete their medical a week or two before their interview.

Maybe I was not clear enough, sorry. I was just wanting to know if it was okay to do the Medical while we were waiting for the HK police clearance to arrive at the USEM. Okay, so the Visa itself is valid for 6 months from the date of the medical. Good to know. Should not be a problem as I hope for us to return to the U.S. together if at all possible.

This would be a very good place to practice her english before going to the states and getting submerged in it. You don't have to wait for Hong Kong to do the medical

Her English is excellent, both written and spoken, she is just worried about what others think if it is not PERFECT! Haha. :bonk: I try to tell her even those of us born here are not perfect and her grammar is better than many native speakers.

Haha, When I was younger and wrote a lot of letters my spelling was a lot better, now I'm always asking my wife how to spell something. Thank god for spell check

You mean thank "God" for spell check. Capitalization. Haha. Sorry, I couldn't resist considering the subject under discussion. :D

It was not my intention to make anyone self concious of their English grammar. This is a place of sharing and helping each other and that is what I have told my fiancee. I simply could not resist the minor nit picking at one of us who are native born, and it proves my point, no one is really ever perfect at English grammar. I want my fiancee to feel comfortable asking her questions here as everyone should be. I apologize if it made anyone sensitive about their English skills. I am one of those Americans who only speaks one language. I only know w few words in Tagalog and even fewer in Visayan her native language. I know it will be difficult for me to learn but I will learn so I can communicate with her and her family. Then it will be someone elses turn to correct me. LOL

My gramma was the best, but then both gramma and grampa died some years back.... :innocent:

On a more serious note, if you're going to learn Visayan and you want to be completely correct you've got a long, long road ahead of you. If we want to be critical, as some might be in relating to English grammar, well then, there really is no Visayan--now some might say that there is Cebuano but consider that how could this even be since before the Spaniards came the predominant Philippine alphabet's whose name was Baybayin, had neither a "v" nor a "c."

So you can tell your wife that really she is speaking Sugbuhanon but she will simply stare at you blankly or laugh because she will instantly understand the word Sugbuhanon, and so should you as most likely you've been to Sugbu. Once you've learned Sugbuhanon (commonly known as Cebuano) you've still a long way to go as Sugbuhanon aka Visayan will also require learning Hiligaynon also known as Ilongo, Waray-Waray, Porohanon and Boholano. I don't know about you but learning new languages gives me a headache and I'm so happy that Juliet and much of her family knows English.

Just what you wanted to hear, eh....hehe.
