North Korea says to enter "state of war" against South Korea: KCNA

SEOUL — North Korea said on Saturday it was entering a "state of war" with South Korea in a continuing escalation of tough rhetoric against Seoul and Washington after coming under international sanctions for its nuclear test.

"From this time on, the North-South relations will be entering the state of war and all issues raised between the North and the South will be handled accordingly," a statement carried by the North's official KCNA news agency said.

KCNA said the statement was issued jointly by the North's government, ruling party and other organizations.

You can't declare war against a country if you never declared an end to the last war. Short of actual hostilities, this is about as real as it gets.

The two Koreas have been in a technical state of war because their 1950-53 conflict ended under an armistice and not a peace treaty, although Pyongyang earlier in March declared the truce no longer valid.

(CNN) -- North Korea has entered a "state of war" with neighboring South Korea, according to a report Saturday from the state-run Korean Central News Agency that included a threat to "dissolve" the U.S. mainland.

Saturday's report included a direct threat to the United States, while also asserting Pyongyang "will not limit (itself) to limited warfare but to all-out war and nuclear war."

"We will first target and dissolve mainland United States, Hawaii and Guam, and United States military based in South Korea. And the (South Korean presidential office) will be burned to the ground," the KCNA report said.

In a statement later Saturday, South Korea did not treat their neighbor's latest threat as anything new.

"The announcement made by North Korea is not a new threat, but part of follow-up measures after North Korea's supreme command's statement that it will enter the highest military alert" on Tuesday, South Korea's Unification Ministry said in a statement.

South Korea doesn't not seem to be concerned.

South Korea announced full military readiness.

So far Kim has been undeterrable and appears they're readying for war. Kim's also saying I'm not my father don't go by his play book of the past. They're calling in their reserves. Analysts are saying war is lurking but they're years away from having nuclear war heads that could hit us. I know they've been doing a lot of missile and nuclear weapons testing.

I'm thinking Kim may just be crazier than his father and be in the homicidal, suicidal mentality of active shooters we've seen such as Adam Lanza. Except he doesn't have just an assault rifle and he's not aiming at children. He's got an arsenal of missiles, a starving-propaganda-brain-washed-anti-western-sentiment military force and who knows whatever else at his disposal. He's got to prove himself to the old military leaders of the country he inherited. He's also facing civil unrest in his country and may be thinking it's now or never. His people are having outside contact and influences and beginning to question the leadership. If this was a poker game and he's bluffing the stakes are pretty high right now and he might just shoot his way out it.

One thing that articles cite as an indication they won't go to war is a factory in NK run and staffed by SK that is still operating and make 2M a year that they can't afford to lose. They're still in communication with each other and it's fully operational. However, what's the stop NK from advancing troops to that location and using the SK staff as human shields?

The Russian diplomatic comment yesterday also has me thinking what do the Russians know about the North Korean weapons that we don't know? Just what kind of behind closed doors weapon deals have been going on with nuclear advancement? I know Russia has helped Iran with their nuclear energy program for "peaceful purposes" but where do they stand with NK?
