Hey Guys,

I applied for the Capital One card designed for newcomers to USA to build up credit. I got rejected and received a letter this week stating the reason behind the rejection. It says that Equifax, Experian and Trans Union say that my information is missing or unavailable. Then it goes to my credit score which says its missing or invalid?

Is something wrong or is this totally normal? Capital One wasn't much help they just tried to get me to try again for another card instead working out what the issue was.

Thanks

Matt

You have no credit, therefore you're not listed at the credit agencies. Which means the capital one card to build credit requires you to already have some type of credit.

You should have applied for the secured one, not the newcomer one.

This is not the first time I've heard of people rejected applying for the "newcomer" one. Some people have been denied the above, but because it's secured, it occurs less often.

It's stupid whats the point of offering the newcomer one if they expect you to have credit already. Guess i'll just go with my banks secure card.

The newcomer card is for people with credit ratings for 600 and up. It's considered the 2nd step in credit cards. You start with the secured card, build up a little credit, then apply for the newcomer card. The name of it is deceiving, they should change it to the "been here a while card".

You're doing the right thing in going with the secured card. If you are married to a USC with decent credit, it will help you to be put on her credit cards as an authorized user, this is called "piggybacking" and will help you get credit faster.

My wife applied for a Target credit card and was denied. I don't think she has any credit history that I'm aware of. A week later a pre-approved application from Bank of America showed up for a somewhat secured card. So she filled that out and sent it back. They debited $99 out of our account and sent her a credit card with a $500 limit. It was called BankAmericard Platinum Plus Visa.

I'm with Bank of America and was just told about this by the bank but they said you can't apply directly you have to receive a offer just like your wife did. Their secured card is $300 deposit for $300 limit when the capital one secured card is $49 for $200 limit.

That's really odd. I mean this literally just happened. My wife received the card from Bank of America yesterday.

My wife is a U.S. citizen. I wonder if that matters.

The bank told me to apply for a normal credit card then after I'm rejected I'd receive the offer for the 99/500 card but they couldn't 100% guarantee it.

Looking back on it, I think that's what we did. Applied for a regular credit card from BofA, got shot down, and then did the 99/500 thing.
