What service are you referring too?

If you are inquiring about phone service, I suggest you purchase a magicjack that plugs into a USB port on a computer and have your future spoouse purchase a phone, Connect the magic jack to her computer that has internet service and connect phone.

You actually do not need the phone because she can talk to you over the computer.

Befoe you sent the magic jack to her, set it up in the USA and obtain phone number in the area code you want.

This is how my wife communicates with her family in the Philippines. What is nice is her family can call to anywhere in the USA to a home phone or to a cell phone. It is great because her family can contact you on your cell phone or you can call them on your cell phone at no cost to you assuming you have a cell phone plan that has unlimited minutes.

We have had only one issue with the magic jack since sending it to the Philippines.

Her family does not keep the computer turned on when they are not using it. The problem began to occur when the date on their computer defaulted to its default setting and the time/date was no longer correct. This occurred because the computer backup battery had failed and the computer no longer maintained the correct date when the computer was powered back up. They now set the time and date before trying to use the magic jack and everything is good again. Don't ask me why they don't just have the computer battery replaced because I don't know why.

I had a magicjack and magicjack plus - sound quality was low and dropped calls were common, so they hit the circle file after finding the OBI device (works with GoogleVoice) and its free... no fees. Sound quality is lightyears ahead of the mj, and you do not need a computer turned on to use it, simply plug it into a CAT5 port on the modem or router. I even use an OBI here at home connected to the house phones. I can even update the firmware of the device in the Phils from here.

If willing to spend $25 per month for clear and unlimited calls, try Globe Duo

Good luck!

what im referring to is My link. I'm more concern with her being able to call home once she gets here.

Also, you have to have a globe phone in the phils,, or just be on the globe network?

My wife calls the Phils daily and family calls her daily, all for free and they talk as long as they choose. She can call the Phils from any phone not just home, and they can call any number in the USA or Canada and its free. Yes they need internet for the OBI.

If there was a fee for using the OBI I would still be using it. I had Vonage, MagicJack (Plus also) and they all had low quality and dropped calls.

I am a Globe subscriber but i don't trust them a lot since they always steal my load and Globe's customer service is a pain in the butt. My fiance knows already what exactly he wants to do so I can contact my family with unlimited call and text using a cellphone anytime of the day but in low cost per month. but i think this one seems to be a good deal esp if the family members in the PI are Globe subscribers.

I use two services with my fiancée. I prefer not to spend tons of money, but I feel both are reasonable and certainly offer a lot of flexibility for what I pay.

First, I do use the Vonage service you're talking about. It offers unlimited calling from the US to all Globe customers in the Philippines. Which means that, as long as they have Globe, she can make unlimited calls to friends, family, ex-boyfriends, anyone for $29.95 per month. That's a killer screaming deal in my opinion. We're not limited to one number or when she's home. In addition Vonage offers "extensions". My cell phone with AT&T offers unlimited minutes in the Us. I've set up an App on my phone that calls my fiancée's Globe phone, using a US dialed number. So we talk every day on my drive home from work, at zero cost. I can call anytime from my home or cell to her phone, or anyone else's Globe phone for just the base $29.95. When she arrives in the US I expect this to be our most used phone service, as it doesn't tie the person in the Philippines to any specific landline, internet, or location, excepting they must have Globe.

We also use the MagicJack. This is how she contacts me. She can call me anytime for free (well, low annual cost) at any phone number in the US. She also calls friends, cousins, my family, etc. for one low annual cost. When she comes here the MagicJack will stay with her family. So her family can call here for $30 per year on MagicJack.

With those two services we cover a lot of needs for a reasonably low cost. She calls unlimited to a lot of number in the Philippines, her family calls her (or her cousins) in the US for super low annual cost.

There are other alternatives to the MagicJack, and I assume they are as good/possibly better, but the MagicJack has worked for us. I don't know of any other alternative that allows for unlimited calling to a huge amount of cell phones in the Philippines for only $30 per month like the Vonage service does. It will allow her to stay in contact not only with her immediate family, but also with aunts, cousins and friends as often as she wants, from our home or cellphone (using the free Vonage extension) unlimited.

Good luck!

The problem with Obi, is that from the states, you can call ONE location in the Philippines. So it's fine for calling your wife, fiancé or maybe their mother or something. But when you figure that you are paying for an internet connection on THAT end, and they're fairly unreliable and slow in the Philippines, I personally think Vonage makes much more sense. Also, with Vonage, you can add one free extension, so we've set up her cell phone, so she can either call from home, OR from her cell phone, anywhere she is, and make calls back to the Ph.

To answer the OPs question, we have had Vonage Unlimited Ph now for about 5 months, I got it for my fiancé when she arrived, so she could call back to the Philippines. We get an occasional dropped call, but who knows how much of that is Vonage and just that she's calling people way out in the province who have bad signal coverage there anyway. She probably talks on it an hour a day, sometimes more. Since most people in the Philippines seem to have at least a Globe or TM Sim card, there are very few people she can't call unlimited. And it's .09 a minute when she has to call a Sun or Smart number.

So I guess for me, it's a no brainer. Figure you spent $30 a month in the Ph for a stable internet connection for an Obi, then fine, your wife here can call ONE number in the Philippines. Or for about $36 a month 'here', she can call nearly anyone and everyone she will want. For us, the quality is just fine, on part with any other VOIP I've had. Not sure how long ago the other poster used it, maybe they have improved their bandwidth to the Philippines. But for us it's completely usable, and has been a HUGE relief that she can so easily be in touch with all of her family spread out across the Philippines.

I wouldn't hesitate to get it again for a second.

It also allows me to call my friends in India, Sweden, Canada, all for free.

One of the best purchases I ever got.

The call quality is as good as the signal on the other end... I got it because I wanted to be connected to my Fiancee as much as possible. We would spend entire evenings connected and talk as if we were with each other in person. But Vonage's meaning of "unlimited" is: less than 3000 minutes per month, and no repeated dials or lengthy calls to one number. Basically, they will monitor your usage and cut you off if they feel they could be making more money on you as a pay-per-use customer. They will do this under the assertion that you are using their service for business purposes.

My account was suspended after just 2 months. They gave me the option of switchng to a $29.99 + .09/min plan or being terminated. I just let them cancel my account.

And one more reason I enjoy the OBI (& Googl Voice), no limitations. Of course the draw back is the person at the other end needs internet access also and the OBI, but it works very well with DSL speed. When I was trying out Vonage and magicjack neither worked that great and I have serious internet speed yet the call quality usually was so-so at best compared to now with the OBI.

My wife using this and got her $30 dollars prepaid visa card too. She had her family switch to Globe instead of using Smart so she can call them unlimited anytime anyday. She also call Japan for free. So far is good.

If i will rate it, it'll be like 6 out of 10. I just hate it when it says "Lines are temporary busy!" (after you have dialed so many numbers), Because you have to dial your pin from vonage plus the number which you are calling..Then repeat dialing all those digits until you can get through..But all in all, it is still good for me ;)
