Finally my case is complete at NVC. My husband filed my I-130 back in July 2012. Did not expect the process to take this long at all, made worse by the fact that I needed multiple police certificates from various countries having moved a lot for work. One of these countries wouldn't issue police certificates in advance without a specific letter from NVC addressed to them directly. This one document delayed the process by 3 months!!

Now I am just waiting for my interview to be scheduled. How we are all staying sane, I do not know. At this point, I am exhausted with the wait and feel like someone hit the pause button on my marriage and life. I resigned from a job I love back in October last year to spend a few months with my husband in the US. I felt it was the right thing to do as we had just gotten married. I then left the US and moved to live with my parents whilst waiting to be interviewed by the US embassy in my home country. In the meantime, I feel like I'm losing touch with the working world. It's hard to find a new job to fill my time because the firms I apply for want me to stay permanently and I won't lie to them and not disclose the fact that I intend to leave as soon as my visa is granted.

Anybody else in the same boat? I miss working because it truly did make time go by so fast!

My I-130 was filed in July 2012. I got my NOA2 in September 2012. Case complete March 26, 2013.

Let's keep the faith guys!

Hi Elle,

I am exactly in the same place that you are! I quit my job in October to be with my boyfriend (now fiance) in the US for 3 months. I returned, we filed the K1, I thought it would only be a process of 4-6 months and I would be back with him. I thought that was a great time period to get rid of my apartment, my stuff and say good-bye to loved ones. Now I found out that CSC is taking forever to process K1 visas and all in all it will more likely take 9-10 months or God knows how long. I am in a position now where I have to either find a job and only work for a few months, which doesn´t make a lot of sense if you´re having an actual career in a high-profile field. Or I could give up my independence and move in with my family who live near the consulate and just wait for the visa for several months. Sitting around doing nothing I feel lazy, unproductive and useless. I also worry about the huge gap that will appear in my resume and may damage my career. I do have a job interview in a couple of weeks and if they offer me the job, I may accept, but I am not sure yet since I want to be ready to leave my town in Northern Germany to be available for the consulate as soon as I hear from the CSC and NVC. If I stay and work, it may delay my departure for the US eventually because I will still have my apartment and all my things that I will have to loose and take care of.

What would you do?

How long do you think you still have to wait? Is there anything productive you could do to distract yourself a little bit? Volunteering, taking a class at VHS, doing stuff that you´ve always wanted to do but never had the time to?

Hi J&B! I left my job for the exact same reason. I thought it would be a good idea to spend what I thought would only be a couple of months with my parents as I don't see them very often due to my frequent overseas travel for work. The "couple of months" is really dragging on. Like you, the line of work I am in is quite a high profile one, rather than something you can take up and abandon when needs be. I have had a few chats with some contacts but they all want me to commit to a permanent position.

If I were you, and had a job to stay in, I would do so. I know exactly what you mean about wanting to stay in your job just to stay "switched on" in your career. I don't like having this gap in my resume but am justifying it partially by studying for some professional exams. Time goes by very slowly when we're unemployed and it definitely helps to have a career to keep busy with. I am hoping to be able to be reunited with my husband in May. Fingers crossed!

Hey Elle, keep the faith! it seemed like it took too long when you had your nOA2 in Sep'12 to have it all completed in NVC only now. So far, from my research, it seemed that average was between 1-2 months for the docs to be sent to the local embassy for interviews.

I am also entirely new to this whole process, and was torn in either opting for K-1 or CR-1 filing. from what I read, IR1/CR1 usually takes up to a bout 1 year, so, actually hopefully you'll have your interview and updates within this 1-2 months, before July.

AOS approved on 7/31/2014. Took 116 days.

ROC approved on 10/26/2017. Took 463 days / 15 months 2 weeks.

07/12/16 Package (I-751) sent to CSC through USPS Priority Mail Express (Overnight)
07/13/16
(Day 001) USCIS confirmed receipt.
07/15/16
(Day 003) Personal check cashed out.

07/18/16 (Day 006) NOA1 (mail) received. NOA dated 07/13/16.

07/21/16 (Day 009) NOA2 (mail) received. NOA2 for biometrics, ASC appointment notice.

08/04/16 (Day 023) Biometrics appointment . Done!

07/05/17 (Day 358) Infopass appointment for I-551 stamp on passport.

07/14/2017 (Day 367) still waiting for approval.... ugghh...

10/13/2017 (Day 458) CSC processing time is current.

10/18/2017 (Day 465) Filed service request with USCIS Customer Service.

10/26/2017 (Day 463) Received email alert. Card in Production.
